I want my kitten to have the best so I got him Wellness dry kibble, which he eats just fine. The problem is with the wet food - He doesn't like pate, it has to be, you know, chunks in gravy or something. I tried to feed him Natural Balance canned kitten food, but its pate and he's not going for it (tried 2 flavors). He will eat Natural CHOICE, but I'm not sure its as good for him...? And it looks like Blue Buffalo doesn't have canned kitten food, it says 'per 6-8pounds of body weight' in feeding instructions and my baby doesn't weigh that much yet.

Any suggestions of a good canned kitten food that isn't pate? Or should I just go ahead and feed him the Natural Choice (which may not be as good as the Natural Balance).

TIA!

IMHO Natural Balance and Nutro are both premium foods , both are solid...

I suggest trying different brands, for me in wet food low grain is what I look for ...

If the label says one can for 6-8 lbs of adult that = one can for 3-4 lbs of kitten

If you're feeding a good dry kitten food using some cans of "adult" wet food won't hurt.

You can also try mixing a little water with pate foods to make them a tad soupy.

boy i wish I were in your shoes we just bought some cans of taste of the wild and they are chunks and our 12 week old turns her nose up at it because it's not patè. If you can find it try some taste of the wild? I got ours at tractor supply.

Chester Cheetah only likes the gravy/sauce varieties from Nutro. He is not a pate fan either. I hear of other cat owners that their cats do not have such "distinctive"
taste so they will eat any of the canned food Nutro makes.

I hope you find what works for your kitten. Good luck!

Here are some high quality non-pate wet foods.
  1. Innova FLEX (if it's not "flex" then it is pate)
  2. SOME Merrick flavors (some are pate and some are chunks, check labels or experiment)
  3. Weruva
  4. Wellness POUCHES
  5. Nature's Variety home-style
  6. Blue Buffalo healthy Gourmet
  7. By Nature Goldleaf selects
