In Otto's thread in Furr pics about the cat tree (http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=221283) strange_wings asked

...and it made me think. Gary and I have given so much stuff away since we moved out of the house. And Gary's mom is constantly sending me used best seller novels circulated through her group of friends. We've just been giving them to the "library" here in the RV park office.

Sometimes I'd be willing to pay the postage to send them on... in other cases (for larger items), all I'd want is the postage to be paid.

But if anyone from TCS wanted any of these things... I'd rather be sending them on to you all.

I was wondering if we should set up something like... The Free Garage "Sale" in the TCS Members Marketplace? We could each list what we've got to give away, and could contact each other via PM with addresses and postage payment arrangements?

We could even just call it "The Garage Sale," and if anyone wanted something nominal for stuff... ????????????

What do you think?

I think that's a great idea!

We've been in the house long enough now that I've hit what my mom calls the "Aw man, I really don't use this, but it's still good..." stage and I'd be happy to send things on to a new home.

I really like this idea! I have many things in good condition, but I no longer use them and would like to pass them on to someone who can.

That is the basis for freecycle, except no postage or shipping is involved.

I think it's a great idea - of course I've thought about suggesting it in the past but figured that other no one would be interested or interested if the idea came from me.

There are already sites for trading books, but I always thought it would be nice for those on here who share similar interest in books (and post in the what are you reading now thread) to swap - purely as a way to create more fans of their favorite author, of course.

So how do we work it? Should I just start a thread in member's marketplace where anyone who wants lists their stuff?

I guess people could post things they need as well, right?

How about two threads the Have and the Want.. That way folks can see what is availalbe or see what is wanted easier

That or make one thread - since it'll be easier for mods to watch that way. And people keep a link to their posts of "have's" in their sig. Those wanting something specific could always link to a post of their's listing their "want's".

Of course this would need to be run by Anne and the admins first. They may not want this turning into TCS freecycle.

Of course, those coordinating meet-ups could always use those as an opportunity to trade off large items to others, too.

First of all, I think this is a great idea! I agree with strange_wings that it would probably have to be run by the admins or Anne. You could PM Anne or another one of the admins and perhaps ask if you could run it (lone shot). I completely support this idea and I hope it will develop into something.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
I think its a super good idea. I dont have much in the way of 'regular' stuff that needs evicted from my house but Ive got 10 million Harlequin and Silloutte romance books and a bunch of others that I would be more than willing to pass on to someone who would get more out of them than myself.

Im always on the hunt for specific authors that I collect also and yarn or crochet patterns. I have a 1950s Singer Sewing machine with its original table that needs some TLC and a new pedal thats just taking up space on my front porch. We found that in one of the old barns that we cleaned out this spring.

I just pulled about 100 books off my shelves! donated a bunch of stuff to my parent church rummage sale but found another big container of more home stuff so count me in!

I just mentioned to a fellow co-worker that I wish I could find some 4 and 8 oz bottles for my vanilla extract!
