Wellness CORE

Tell me about Wellness CORE. Is this a food that I can feed all 3 cats for a long period of time? Is there any concern with the amount of protein?

I have a 2 year old cat that has recently had a senior panel done, the vet talked me into it since he was found on the streets. His blood work came back fine. So a healthy 2 year old male and a healthy 1 year old female. Lilly the kitten is 5 months old. She had horrible diahhrea when she was on Natural Balance Ultra. So I switched to Natural Balance LID green peas and chicken and I also bought a small bag of Wellness CORE and mixed it with the LID. Lilly is doing a lot better on a grain free diet.

The cats really don't like the LID so I thought maybe I'd put them strictly on CORE they like it a lot.

I should probably mention I'm talking about the dry food. They get dry food free fed and I feed wet food twice a day. The wet food I vary, Wellness brand, different flavors.

I just want the best for my babies.

Wellness CORE fish and Fowl ingredients:
Deboned Turkey, Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Whitefish Meal, Potatoes, Salmon Meal, Natural Chicken Flavor. Core is a great, excellent food, and your cats are young... If Lilly is doing ok with it mixed in with NB, she should be ok with it on its own - she probably doesn't have food allergies.

Make sure to switch them very slowly, as Core is very rich. Also, you will find they will eat considerably less than the suggested quantity on the package - don't be alarmed - it is normal, this is a strong food! My cats eat a similar food, and also eat much less than what's in the package. There is no problem in feeding this food for a long time... The only problem with Core is that it can be too rich for some; but if your cats like it and do well on it, I say go for it - it is great.

Lilly had explosive diahhrea the whole time she was on Natural Balance Ultra. It went away when away when I put them on the NB LID and Core. The vet said she was probably allergic to a grain because she didn't have worms and they couldn't find anything else wrong with her.

I think I will go ahead and switch them completely to Core.

IMHO ... If it is working better use it ... You likely have 5-7 yrs before needing to adjust to a different protein level in a dry food

All cats differ in eating... Mine ate double the amount of No grains than they do of with grain food

My cats liked Wellness Core dry. I switched them to BB Wilderness only because there were different flavors available. If you sign up for the Wellness newsletter they send $3 off coupons every so often for the dry food and $1 off for the wet food which is a GREAT deal! We get the 3oz cans for .25 once we get the coupon and stock up.

Thanks for letting me know! I'm going to sign up for sure!

We recently switched our boys to Wellness Core and we are so far very happy. We were even able to drop them from 1 full cup to 3/4 a day. The vet recommends that we eventually drop them down to 1/2. We do also feed them the wet once in a while, but we're so confused about how much wet vs. dry. Etc. Makes me want to pull my hair out, lol.

I have heard many great things about Wellness Core so I hope that this will keep them healthy and allow them a longer life.

I do wish to make their food myself one day. But I need vet guidance for sure.

I just noticed that this is a thread from a year ago laughing02.gifbluelaugh.gif Oh well, in case anyone wants to use Core.........

I have used Wellness Core in the past. Excellent food. I am now using BB Wilderness Duck. Three of my cat's started with chin acne - allergies. They are doing much better and clearing now that they are the duck. Core is a great, great food and you don't need to feed much. 1/4 cp. per day along with 3 -4 oz. of wet food. My cat's loved the Core and really begged for more all the time. I do not free feed my cat's. They get scheduled meals.
