One of the cities supporting our shelter has had a big feral trapping program this week. They brought in so many cats (all of which have to be held 3 business days before we can do anything with them) that we had a major rash of euthanasias.
The Duke was a big friendly lug who just didn't get adopted. He was an older cat, overweight, but lovable and calm. He tolerated the kittens climbing over him, people handling him, etc., but no one took him home.
Luke was a tall, svelte boy who looked like he might have some savannah in him. He was coming down with the URI, and in normal times he would have gone to the treatment room, but we just didn't have the space for him. He, too, was calm, gentle, and loved attention.
Autumn was a citizen surrender with special needs. He was a gorgeous red tabby with a brilliant white chin and bib. He required a prescription food, and his chances of adoption were against him.
There were others, but I haven't taken a close stock. Those were the ones I knew for sure were gone.
