The Duke, Luke, and Autumn

One of the cities supporting our shelter has had a big feral trapping program this week. They brought in so many cats (all of which have to be held 3 business days before we can do anything with them) that we had a major rash of euthanasias.

The Duke was a big friendly lug who just didn't get adopted. He was an older cat, overweight, but lovable and calm. He tolerated the kittens climbing over him, people handling him, etc., but no one took him home.

Luke was a tall, svelte boy who looked like he might have some savannah in him. He was coming down with the URI, and in normal times he would have gone to the treatment room, but we just didn't have the space for him. He, too, was calm, gentle, and loved attention.

Autumn was a citizen surrender with special needs. He was a gorgeous red tabby with a brilliant white chin and bib. He required a prescription food, and his chances of adoption were against him.

There were others, but I haven't taken a close stock. Those were the ones I knew for sure were gone.

R.I.P. all those lovable, wonderful kitties who weren't adopted by those here on Earth. They are now 'adopted' with loving open arms by sweet beings at the Rainbow Bridge. Run, play, snooze, hunt, relax, and have a wonderful time with all your new friends. You know that you are loved...even by those who never knew you..... and to you all !!!!!

When will there ever be enough loving, kind, caring people to adopt these wonderful little souls?

Will there ever be?

RIP Duke, Autumn and Luke. You were loved. You were all beautiful.

How said for those precious cats. At least they are at peace now and will be forever loved.

What made me sad was that all three of them had had happy homes before something happened to land them in the shelter. I'd save them all if I could.

In fact, I went down to the shelter today to volunteer to "warehouse" a cat or two until things calm down, but they said they had it under control and even have 5 empty cages in the intake room. But that was before a family brought in four kittens...

What a sad story. I am glad that for awhile they had happy homes, and that they knew your love even while they were at the shelter. I just hope that the procedure was not too awful for them. I know that they are in a better place now, in their Forever Home, but it is still a great loss for those here on Earth, those people who are lonely and yearning for love and companionship, and never realize that those cats could have satisfied those yearnings so very well. If only we could educate those people (and I can hear Heaven repeating, "If only....." )
Play happily over Rainbow Bridge, Duke, Luke and Autumn - you are in the company of angels now
