So I've been visiting this 13 year old blind Siamese mix at the shelter for about two months now.

And the shelter let us foster her at my mom's house - my apartment's roof is leaking so she's not coming for visits any time soon. The good thing is we probably will NEVER have to bring her back, but since she has hypertension, they're running tests on her, and I volunteered to pay for the medicine (8 bucks a month wheeeeeeeeee!) and they pay the rest.

She is BEAUTIFUL. Her name is Shebrie - don't know what that means - but we call her Shebejoy and Shebriejoy. She brings joy into our lives.

September 23rd she came home with us. That's the day that Linus came into my life. Pretty special 10 year anniversary for the adventure of Linus.

First night and she already figured out the stairs all by herself, and how to get into the rocking chair recliner.

Thought she was having problems breathing, but she just can't stop purring!!!! LOL

Here's some pictures. It's hard to get pictures of her, since she's so happy and so mobile all the time, circling and purring:

The last one's my favorite so far.

"She walked out of my dreams
and into my car
oh she's a love devine
she's 13
she's beautiful
and Shebrie's mine...."

Oh nooooo.... I'll have to transfer them to photobucket or put other links... hold please.

Let's hope some of these work

"Technically" we're fostering her, because then they'll help with the expensive testing until she gets more stable on her meds, and then we'll officially adopt her.

She's my cat, just residing at mom's. This way, if any medical decisions need to be made, I'll make them, but then she'll have a little bit more privacy and security than if she was at my leaky apartment right now. Landlord should be replacing the roof soon. Or so he says.

So we got word from Diane today. Her blood work came back and no hyperthyroidism. (YAY!) Her kidney functions are a smidgen off, and they suggested us to change her to some special science diet that will help with that, but we're reluctant about changing food so many times for her tummy right now, but maybe that's something we can change for her in the future if need be. Or perhaps someone has suggestions on what food would be best to help maintain her kidney functions? We're open for suggestions.

Second chances don't come much in life. I feel Shebrie has been given a second chance, and in a lot of ways, me. She is so much like my Linus it is absolutely miraculous. I feel like I have been given a second chance to say hello and goodbye again to him, and in some ways see him grow old like I did not have the chance with him. I know that sounds morbid, but that time will come and I will be able to say goodbye again to him, and to see someone grow old and be old in ways I didn't get to experience with him, and well I babbling onward, getting to the point, think it's wonderful. I look at it as a blessing. A blessing to have more closure, and more acceptance, and ultimately more love. I know she is NOT Linus, but she fills me with so much joy and so much peace like I have not felt since I had Linus curled up with me. And she rubs me and she feels the same way he did. If she had stripes, she would look almost identical to him. I feel like a new person. She is truly a gift. As somuchlove said, maybe she was sent to save me. I feel saved. Shebrie is a truly giving selfless cat. And to have that back again I think HAS saved me. I can be a better mommy to my other kitties now, because I am closer to coming back to being the person that I was before, except of course better, because I have known and loved Linus and have opened my heart to love Shebrie. Majel especially notices a difference and has been extra smoochy to me. Mandarin, on the other hand, has become more aloof - which was standard when Linus was here - to me, which is fine. He's not AS aloof, but he's not as smoochy as he felt he had to be for a while.

Perhaps some things are truly meant to be.

The shelter pic works, but none of the others. Congratulations! And Welcome to Shebrie!

Canned food is best for kitties who may have starting kidney issues. It's all about getting lots and lots of fluids into her. So once she's adapted to canned food, start adding a little water to each serving.

Is there a particular canned food that is better for kidney function than others?

Is that what we call her? A tortie point? She just has that one place on her face, and a little bit on her toes that is orange and the rest of her looks siamese. She is a beautiful genius wunderkind angel.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Oh my heart just melted reading this thread!
What a beautiful girl - this series of links worked.

She's a beautiful girl, and you can see the sweetness in her face!

I don't know anything about foods for cats at the beginning stages of CRF, but you should probably post (or spend a little time) in the Health forum. I know there's lots of discussion on the subject.

for both of you!

More pictures!!!!!! Some include me in the picture. They aren't very good pictures of me, but hey, this is all about her, right? My super-model.

She is so little! I'm so glad she is home now. How wonderful that she has adapted so quickly.

So, she's not having any trouble getting around, with her limited vision? How are she and the other cat (is his name William?) getting along.

William is my brother, and Metro is the other cat, for clarification. Sorry, maybe I didn't clarify earlier.

Metro and Shebrie have hardly anything to do with each other. Occasionally they sniff each other, but mostly he gives her a wide berth. But they are extremely civil to each other, which is all we can ask for, really. They act like they've known each other for years!

Shebrie's really cruising and figuring out the house in her stilted manner. I think she's counting steps, or whatever cats do to memorize a place. And she's always got those whiskers out, reaching to find out where she's going. Sometimes she'll jerk back "heeeeey... I don't remember that being there," and then move around. But mostly she's walking in stretchy walk and being confident in most places she roams.

Shebrie even figured out the rocking chair recliner that Metro - with full faculties - hasn't figured out how to jump on, and that's her favorite place. The first night she was home, when I woke up in the morning, that's where she was. She's cute if she's on a new surface, because she'll reach down and try to figure out how far she is from the floor.

First night Shebrie was here she had figured out the stairs all by herself, and was taunting the dog by walking around under the dining room table. (Travis McGee, resident Westie, spends his nights in kennel, because that's his little cave.) So I had to drag her back downstairs.

Yesterday she was being a bad little girl, and didn't want to take her meds. And when I mean she was being bad I just mean she kept spitting her pill out. She never made any aggressive moves but we did get her medicated. Today is the last day of her ear medicine and then we only have the hypertension pills to give her! Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!

Last night I spent the night over because I'm leaving early in the morning with my mom to visit my sister Aimee's newborn baby Maria, and Shebrie slept with me on the pillows. Thus the new beautiful pictures.

I think she used to weigh a bit more, but who knows what the poor wee lass has been through. She has a nice solid bone structure, though and is a bigger boned girl than she looks.
And she's soooo soft.

Oh and she looks a lot smaller in the pictures of her and me laying down because she's on a pillow behind me on the couch we are! lol
