I bought myself a new toy today. I don't have a TV in my bedroom and my eyes are getting sore from reading, plus I'm on a kick watching DVDs, so I decided to get myself a mini laptop.

It weighs 2.6 pounds! So it's small enough to carry in my purse. Plus I'll be able to play my hidden item games from Big Fish on it. A nice change from just sitting when I'm waiting or reading old magazines.

It's sooooo cute!

I just spent 2 hours laying in bed under my warm electric blanket watching reruns of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." Well, they aren't re-runs to me because I only saw a handful of episodes when it originally aired.

I have to take it back today! When I open the top instead of getting to my desktop right away I am at a screen where I have to click on "owner locked" to get to my desktop. A minor thing, but annoying.

Anyway, there is an icon on the bottom left of the screen that when I hover over it, shows "Easy access", so I left clicked on it....nothing happened. Then I right clicked on it and got a popup window showing some options. But not only that, there is a voice stating repeatedly "Warning! Your license is not valid for this computer!"

So it seems they messed up when presetting up this computer and either gave me an expired license key or someone else's!

I sure don't need Microsoft knocking at my door telling me that I'm using a pirated operating system!

So I need to take it back and have them reformat it with a valid license of their software.

I went back to the store today. The tech was away, but a tech associate looked on the computer and it showed that the key was valid and that Windows 7 had been activated and it had the "Genuine" icon. They went to check the Window's license key against the one on the bottom of the computer to find that there is no license key sticker on the computer. They told me that it must be on the box (which I had left at home).

I figure if the license is valid and activated and managed to download the updates without a problem, I would just leave it as is rather than being without it for a week (next time I could get there would be next Saturday).

I got home and looked at the box and there is no Windows License Key on it either.

I called the store back and told them that I do not have a Window's license sticker at all. The guy said that after I left he went back and checked out a few other preset up models and they all give that warning, and none of them have license keys on the machine or the box.

He thinks that HP may have made a mistake when setting them up. So now I'm waiting for a phone call back to see what is going on.

In the meantime I may be using a pirated operating system

Well, at least I get to keep my crown as the most jinxed person when it comes to anything electric. For some reason I'm hugely jinxed when it comes to buying anything electric. Things either have problems from the get go, or soon after I buy it, or very soon after the warranty expires. This computer makes me 100%!

Hello.

I know that you started this thread a while ago, and I am aware that you may or may not notice this reply since it's the first in a few months, but if you happen to be reading this could you please tell me what ended up happening with your Mini? What did the Tech and his associate end up finding out?

I ask because I am experiencing a similar issue, only worse because I can't even get past the login screen.
Any little bit you can think of helps, even if it's just to point me in the right direction.

Oh, and just a funny little coincidence, I also have a cat named Neko.
He's a cute, sleek, black dsh with quite a quirky personality. I saw pics of your other kitties in your sig but there were no pics of Neko. If you don't mind me asking, what is your Neko like?

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.

It is a Windows 7 bug. And the serial number is legit. They apparently don't put the sticker on the outside of the computer. It's inside the case itself.
