I rescued Maia in the month of May. I was very depressed and Life was not treating me so good, so what better then to name her after the Greek goddess of rebirth, life, and who the month of May was named after
.

I'm jealous. You live in Manhattan where I lived for 10 years and then ended up in snoozeville Connecticut!

Kunik - we had a tough time finding a name that fits his personality or his looks. He has a semi-flat face, despite that, he lives giving Eskimo kisses (nose-to-nose). I googled, and the proper term for Eskimo kisses is Kunik, so Kunik it is! And it fits him. He's spunky and playful and cute.

Tallulah
- when first saw her video on the rescue website, I thought she looked like a little wolf or a dog. After we met her, I found out that she's all girly! She loves being brushed and massaged, and is just a princess, so I have find a feminine name. She loves drinking water, and I found that Tallulah means leaping water in Native American, and it fits her well!

Spirit was found outside on halloween so we wanted something that kind of went along with that.

Angel was rescued from a shelter and she is the most loving cat you would ever meet!!

Then some of you know I am getting a kitten that I still havent thought of a name yet >.< I am currently thinking of these names Sasha, Sophia, Skylar, or Daisy(most because her mother is Lilly so we wanted another flower name) And recently I thought of Isis which is an Egyptian goddess.

She did not come with a name that I remember or know of so I named her a Native American name, it was shortened to Key. Easier to say and sounds like here kitty kitty kitty if you say it fast. But even that doesn't get used enough and people call her Kitty because she is the only one among the dogs.

My kittens follow the theme that began with my Quinn...sort of. Quinnie is named for "Quinn the Eskimo" a song often mistaken for a Beatles song. From there, I bought two mice, Sadie and Penny, named after Beatles songs. It only made since that the kittens followed suit. So, we have Lucy, Ringo and Lennon!

Tolly, Mazy, Jennie and Queen Eva all told me their names.

Tolly took a week to let me know (or I was that slow it took me a week to understand). I had tried on Oliver, Peter, Charles and some others, none fit, then the night he had been here one week I was reading in bed, he jumped up on me, and started kneading my chest while staring deeply into my eyes with this intent look, and suddenly I realized "Oh! You're Tolly!" and he purred even louder.

Jennie told me her name the first time our eyes met, I'd been feeding her for several months, and calling her "Socks" just to have something to call her, but the day she didn't run away, and looked up at me and I said "OH! You're Jennie!" and she gave me a slow blink.

Mazy's name was Trinity at the shelter. I had been going to the shelter regularly looking for a kitten for Tolly because Ootay
and Bibbs
were getting too old to want to rough house and Tumble with him and Tolly, at 6 years old, was still a playful cat (and still is at 11)

One the day I met Mazy, the shelter manager met me at the door all excited because they had a room full of tiny kittens, including some adorable little red ones.....

..... But then there was "Trinity" in her cage in the kitten room. She was not a baby, she was over 7 months old, but when our eyes met she claimed me and told me her name was Mazy. I said "OH! You're Mazy!" and she said "prrt?"

Queen Eva was being called Lucky when I met her as a four week old scrap of fur. I won't go into detail of the conditions I found her in, and it took me four weeks to get her out.

But the first time we met she was playing in a cardboard box. I squatted down and reached out a finger to scritch her chin and she lifted her golden eyes to mine and told me she is Eva. The bonding was instantaneous and I suffered agonies for four weeks wanting to get her out of there.

On the day I picked her up and took her home, as we turned out of the driveway of that house, she told me, at the top of her considerable voice, that she is QUEEN Eva.

Speck - My cat Redman had just crossed the Bridge. DH and I were sad and lonely. He wanted another red cat. I was determined to have a spotted cat. First DH and I looked at Bengals, then we decided to adopt a kitten from the animal shelter instead. This sounds crazy, but I had a pretty good idea of what Speck would look like before I ever saw him. As I walked into the kitten room at the pound, I saw this "huge" (as far as kittens go) kitten in a cage in the corner. He had big puppy-dog feet, extremely short hair, and lots of spots. He was almost a tan color (the shelter called it "buff"), but he looked red enough.
And he was looking at me with the oddest expression, sort of a frown with his brows furrowed. I knew immediately he was the one. I had already chosen the name Speck, though I also liked Butterbean. (Butterbean is more of a llama name, though, don't you think?) As you can see from his picture below, since he grew up his spots have stretched.

Siamie - adopted from the Humane Society right after DH and I got married. A DLH with blue eyes and Siamese features. I wanted to call her Persimmon, but DH put a quick stop to that. He named her Siamie.

Buster - a former stray from DH's office. DH named him. And he looks like a Buster. He walks like an English Bulldog and generally looks tough.

Daisy - was a stray at the business next door to DH's. They called animal control on her. DH and I decided to rescue her. He picked her up from "death row" and took her to the vet for her spay, etc. He had to give the vet's office a name so he called me to chose one. I hadn't even seen her. Daisy was the name of the cow my Dad's family had when he was little and plus it's a pretty name. When Daisy came home, she would switch her tail and look menacing whenever I said her name. "What's the matter?" I'd say. "Don't you like your name? I picked it out for you...." Now she likes her name. Turns out the problem was that she didn't like me at first.

My cat's name is Rowan. I love unique names and though don't really like human names for animal's, Rowan is a "human" name. I originally wanted to name a future dog this, but this name kept popping up in my head. Even after I got her I still wasn't sure if it was the right name for her, but I already told everyone at work (where I got her from) that Rowan was what I chose and signed up for this forum under the name Lady Rowan so I am stuck with the name I guess
(she was called Chica before, I didn't feel like it fit her at all and she didn't really respond to it anyhow)

But Rowan is a red berry or red tree that grows red berries on it and she does have an orangish tint to her fur in some places. She is as sweet as a berry too
I also love scottish or irish names and hers is scottish.

My first 2 got their names when they first came to me from Bid-A-Wee shelter. They were 4 months old brother and sister. I let them out of their carrier when I first got them home. The brother was running all over the kitchen trying to hide and jumped up on the counter top knocking over syrup the plastic bottle broke open on the bottom, jumping down on the floor right into the syrup then leaned on his sister getting her alll syrupy, I had go clean her and him and floor a few times to get the sticky out.
My husband called him molasses. My other girl cat was trying to get behind the refrigerator running back and forth and my husband starting humming the mission impossible theme ( I know I'm dating myself now) while shes trying to hide. the female on that show was named cinnomon. so we call her cinnie. And thats how they got their names.

Twitch - when I first met her she was 6 weeks old & would "twitch" (jump) whenever we touched her - we later learned she jumped because she was deaf & couldn't hear us!

TigerLily - I will never again let family members name a cat.
One wanted Lily, the other added Tiger into it because she's striped.

Margo & Molly came home from the shelter already named.

Eden - named such because from her previous life, her new life was going to be the 'garden of eden'

Dorian Grey - Named such because the movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen had just come out. (Shortened version of his name is "Dory", from Finding Nemo.)

Ophelia Rose - Ophelia from Shakespeare, since she was a bit of a "drama queen" & Rose in case she turned out to be a nice cat. We never have needed the middle name!

Lola Foofy Tail - Her name at the shelter when I brought her home to foster was Lola, I added in the Foofy Tail from a TCS member saying she had a foofy tail.

Gumby B. Bendy Cat - (aka Gumby the Gut) - Gumby was Camille, which I didn't like. She was always sleeping in very odd positions when she was younger, hence the name Gumby.

Tabitha - I have no idea how she got the name.

Slinky - She's semi-feral and would slink around anytime she was moving about the yard.

Fafeena - Again, never letting family members name cats.

The Chairman Squishy Meow - He was a fat cat, & sticking to the Finding Nemo theme I wanted to call him Squishy. I don't know why I added in the Chairman Meow part.

Billy Bob & Tony Bob - They are very vocal cats, always "whining" about something. I know of three humans who complain a lot - named Bill, Bob, & Tony!

Cow - He looked like a Cow in the pasture the year he was born.

Goat-Head - She rams her head into anything, races up to head-butt other cats, people, buildings, etc.

Captain Nemo - Once again, not giving up my Finding Nemo theme!

Spud was such a round little thing as a baby, and he had an obsession with veggies that I brought in from the garden. He would jump up on the counter an steal potato peelings from the sink when I was making dinner and to this day fresh green beans are a favorite "toy".

Siam was a lynx point Siamese and Hubby named him. After he passed (
, a few months later we got another lynx point and named him Thai. He has lots of nicknames...ThaiThai, ThaiBo, MyThai....and usually Daddy's lil' Puppy!

That's because Rowan IS her name!

Whenever I see a post by you I think of Anne McCaffrey's character The Rowan from her Pegasus series.

I have had a Greek Mythology theme for going on 5 years now. I'm starting to run out of names, plus I'm not taking in anymore cats
really, I swear....unless more nuns hijack me
I choose my names before I get the cat usually, sometimes they end up being very prophetic

Pandora: she is black and white, so her nickname of Pandy is very appropriate, plus, within a couple weeks of adopting her, she decided to chew on an electrical wire and nearly fry herself
so the opening of Pandora's box applied

Dionysus- called Deedle or DeeDee for short

Cronus- or Croney, Croney-Baloney. He is a massive cat, he has to be a Maine Coon or at least part, so the leader of the Titans is a fitting name.

Chaos- caused a lot of chaos by blocking a couple months after I got him

Electra- Elle or Elle Belle for short

Apollo- he has the most unusual orange eyes, so the god of light and sun is a very appropriate name

Atlas- while he doesn't carry the world on his shoulders, I'm pretty sure it's in his belly
I usually call him Atty or Fatman

Nemesis- all black cat so it fit nicely

Finally are Shadow & Spookie- these are my most recent additions and they are still pretty feral so I didn't think it wise to change their names. They were named thus because they were found on Halloween
