1. Junie came to us in the summer - hence her name.

2. Billy was feral and DH wanted a simple name for him. He is white and "bily" in DH's Czech language means white, so we adapted the name Billy from that word.

3. Pixie is huge now, but, as a kitten, she was tiny and energetic, like a pixie.

4. Stockings is a tuxedo cat with a self-explanatory name.

5. Soxy, ditto.

6. Zimmie came to us around Valentine's Day. Wanted to call her Valentine, but DH didn't like that. DH is Czech and the word for winter is "Zima" so we adapted that to make Zimmie.

Delitechance (Deli) was a Russian Blue and came to us with her name; she was a show cat, a retired "queen" and Nina’s mother.

Ninotchka (Nina) is her daughter, and my wife wanted a Russian name, so she named her after the old movie "Ninotchka" with Greta Garbo.

Nikolai (Nicky) while he isn't a Russian Blue, we wanted a Russian name that would alliterate with Ninotchka and to stay with a theme.

Hurley came with his name.
Pandora I've always loved greek mythology and I didn't want to go with a common greek name like Hera.
Lilly because she has stripes like a tiger, so we were going for Tiger Lilly, but she's a little monster so it's more like Lilly Monster. LOL

Monster got his name because when I first got him at 4 weeks old, I thought he was a girl. I had named him Bella. He was a naughty little kitten, and had so many nicknames, the most common one being Monster. So when i found out he was a boy, Monster stuck.

Mittens came to me with her name, and she was named for her white paws.

Precious got her name because she is precious.

Heidi was named after a childhood pet of mine, and Buddy was named after an orange cat I knew when I was younger.

Katina - Lithuanian for cat. Rob actually thought I had said it, but I had told him "gattinas" was Italian for female kitten, and he said "Katina?" It was prettier and stuck, then we found out about the Lithuanian part!

Nero - Italian for "black".

Hoshi - his name was "Star" when he was being fostered, but he's a stout big boy and thought it was too girly. He looks like he has some type of oriental in him, so we named him Hoshi, which is Japanese for "star".

Neko - Japanese for "cat". His name was Jim Bob when we adopted him, and it was NOT staying that way

Joey: was originally Chloe which means from the Garden because we found him in our flower bed at 4 weeks old.... but then he...um... grew! LOL! So we wanted something that sounded close.
Google: we wanted something geeky but cute. And we threw around a bunch of different names but this one stuck!

When we adopted Genever, her shelter name was Miss Boo Bear.
Well, that had to go immediately! After most of the day thinking up names, we finally decided on Genever, which is a Dutch/Belgian liquor on which gin is based. I don't like gin, but Genever (or Jenever as it's more commonly spelled) comes in tons of flavors such as vanilla, lime, melon, peppermint, chocolate, coffee, violet
, raspberry, orange, etc. (gin is the juniper flavored). Almost like a schnapps, but not really. Unfortunately it's not available in the USA, and rare outside of BeNeLux, but BF is from England and has some connections so we currently have bottles of coffee, woodberry, cherry, and straight jenever. The straight stuff tastes almost like tequila actually. But anyway, back to the cat name..

We're both big into micro/craft beers and don't drink spirits too often, so it would almost make more sense for her to have a beery name, but Genever just fit. Her name is pronounced like Jennifer, but with a V instead of an F. The Dutch call the liquor Yuh-NAY-ver, and the French probably say it more like Genever. But we say Genever, or G-Cat, or sometimes simply G!!

The girl I got Abby from had named her. Abby was 4 months old at the time and an orange/white kitty. And she just looked like an "Abby" to me, so I kept it.

I named my kitty Autumn because she has the colors of that season. She is all black with orange, yellow and white threads of color thru her body. She is known as a tortie but a dark one.

Either from something I hear or looking up names, and always last minute only finally decided minutes before the call to the vet.
Sherman's name was the only easy one and I'm not sure why I choose his name.
Tomas was a random pick. I later learned the name means twin, which is ironic considering I had another cat (Sho) of the same color pattern.

MewMew, my outside girl cat, was named by my MIL because MewMew meows a lot. Boo (outside male) is actually short for BooBoo, which came about because I saw him with his mother (a cat a neighbor fed) and said "uh oh, someone had a little booboo"
Later when his mother kicked him out (at several months old) and I started working at taming him his name stuck.

The last three kittens, all shades of orange, were named from names on a website that LDG (pretty sure she was the one) linked to.

Cammy-DH was joking and asked if he could name her after a street fighter character, but then when he really thought about it, Cammy was a good name!

Abbey-we are huge Beatles fans, and for some reason DH wasn't liking Lucy or Prudence or Penny, we ended up with Abbey after the Abbey Road album.

my current bunch are all named after some kind of computer something... started when i read a book, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, w/a cat named Pixel. that one was orange w/blue eyes, but i liked the name! so when i got my pair [very FIRST cat was a tortie named Medley for her Medley of colors] i looked for a 'companion' name for Pixel - a friend suggested Mouse. since one kitten was blue, i named that one Mouse [she's over the Bridge, now
] & her sister became Pixel.
then, when i rescued Cable, i thought initially she was a male. thought of Cable [like computer cables, get it?] because she's a black/silver mackerel tabby - she has lines on her like cables!
then Java was rescued - i had TCS vote on her name, & Java was the winner [calico].
then, i adopted Chip [now, sadly, rehomed
] & originally was going to name him Port. someone here suggested Chip, & i liked it better.
finally, my baby girl, Firefox, a torbie [also now rehomed
].
i've already thought of some names for future cats - Data is currently the favorite, good for either gender.

we named momo asmodeous because when he was just a tiny little ball of fluff kitten he was very fierce. he would hiss and spit at our neighbors dog through the glass. of course he has since been downgraded to momo because he has ended up being the biggest scaredy-cat out of all of our kittehs!

rosencrantz and guildenstern - well, we got them as a matched set and wanted to come up with names that went together. they looked exactly alike from most angles so we kept getting them mixed up. if you have ever seen the movie rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead or read the play by tom stoppard, well, that is where the names came from

then guildenstern died, and rosie was so lonely we had to find him a companion to play with since our momo is old and surly, so we got a lovely buff tabby boy from a local rescue and named him tim roth - who is the actor who plays guildenstern in the movie. had to keep the reference going somehow!

our newest babies are fenchurch and arthur. they are another matched set but they are boy and girl. again, we wanted names that went together since they are brother and sister, so they are named after arthur dent from hitchhikers guide and his girlfriend fenchurch from so long and thanks for all the fish.

i don't know if it shows but we are big old book nerds over here

Pearl because of her shiny white coat
Fluffy after Eric Cartman's cat, a character from South Park. She was going to be named Polly Prissypants after Cartman's doll, but she hissed at us when we called her that.
Scooter was originally called Poot, both from a Ron "tater salad" White comedy routine, but he ignored us when we called him Poot. We call him that when he is bad.
Pepper was Pepe' Le Pew because he always fell over in the litterbox when he had the hip injury, and was kind of a stinky little guy. Then we discovered she was a girl and she became Pepper. She is a black, gray and white tabby, so the name fits.
