Cotton - My big buddy

Cotton passed away in my arms tonight. His poor body just couldn't fight anymore

Goodbye, big buddy. You were my heart kitty and I loved you dearly. I hope you knew that. From the moment I first saw your picture in that rescue newsletter, I knew you were my cat. We fought our way through depression and dental problems, hyperthyroid and your chronic sniffles.

You were always my big, loving bundle of fluff. You preened for the ladies, tried to supplant Mike at every opportunity, made sure I got up with the alarm, then made sure I stayed in bed extra long rubbing your belly.

You helped Mike come out of his depression and you helped Freya overcome her neurosis...and you gallantly tried to teach her to hunt, even if the results weren't so good.

You cheered me up with a purr in the ear, and found nothing wrong with sleeping on us or in our arms. You helped me baste all of my quilts and made sure the furnace came on every winter. You kept my kidneys warm when I was sick and comforted me if I had a nightmare.

You were always there for me, and I never regretted getting you. We had four and a half great years, and even if we'd had thirty, I think it would still hurt this much. You were such a wonderful cat.

In the end, you passed away in my arms, wrapped in your blankie...the same way you joined our family. I cried on you that day too, and I promised I'd always be there for you; I'd always come back for you.

Thank you for sharing your life with me. I know one day we'll meet again, I'll get to hear your manly "meowlff," and we can play the belly game.

Rest in Peace Cotton. My big buddy, my Fuzzy man, my Mr. Cotton.

Oh no, I didn't want to read this...

Cotton was obviously so very much loved. What a lucky guy to have known that.

That is such a beautiful tribute to your little friend. Would that all the animals have such wonderful parents. I wish he could have come through all this, but it was not to be.

The angels are holding him safely now. He is at the Bridge with all of our buds.

God bless him and you and your family. He will be waiting for you.

Sweet Cotton boy, you were one of a kind. RIP Dear One.
How comforting it must have been for him to leave this world while snuggled in your safe, loving arms. I'm so sorry. He will always be with you until you can join him in Paradise.

Thank you everyone. It really means a lot to me right now.
My heart broke all over again when I woke up this morning and realized that I didn't need to get up and start our usual morning routine of special food, meds and insulin.

I keep seeing him around the house, though. I'll walk into a room and for a moment I'll see him laying in one of his spots. Even with Freya and the foster family, the house seems so empty. Cotton was such a big soul...

Ms. Freya, my deepest sympathies go out to you, I'm so very sorry for the loss of your little "big boy" white one, he sounded very special indeed.

Play over the Rainbow Bridge Cotton, wait for your human family, they miss and loved you so much!!

I'm so very sorry.

Others have said the words that came to my mind: how bittersweet that he passed in your arms, but how very special that he was loved so very much by you, and you by him.

RIP, handsome boy, and watch over your family from the Bridge.

Oh no! I am SO sorry sweetie, this is just heartbreaking! Devastating! I had the same reaction as Carolina - I totally expected him to turn the corner! If my heart is breaking - I just can't imagine how you're feeling!

He was SUCH a special boy.

Play happily over the bridge, free of sniffles and insulin needles!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts, it really means a lot to me.

We brought Cotton home tonight. We put his urn up in the bedroom where he'd always sleep with or without us. I know it probably seems like such a little thing since we already had to say goodbye, but it meant I could keep my last promise to him. I went and brought him home one last time.

I suppose it's closure, in a way, but there's still such a big hole in my heart...
