I'm leaving for a few days to go to Kyoto to do some sightseeing with the boyfriend. He came to Okinawa last time. It went so well that he asked me out, and we agreed to do it again.

The downside and the upside is that he lives in Kyoto. Which is like 200-300km of ocean from me. So we can only get together once every month or so. This trip is going to cost me like $500. The plus side (aside from the guy, he's pretty neat too...hee,hee...) is of course that it's Kyoto! I figure that even if this relationship goes nowhere, it's a rare opportunity to get to sightsee Kyoto with an actual native.

Think its hard finding single guys in their 30's who are attractive and without major personlity defects, try living in Japan. While western men and Japanese women seem to find each other attractive, the reverse is much rarer.

We have a freaky amount in common, BTW. And he speaks really good English.

Here's hoping it goes well and we can meet again in Okinawa next month or something...

I have a very good friend in Kyoto, a dentist. If I knew just how to get hold of him, I'd have you visit him. He has some of the rarest cars in Japan, including a Mustang and a T bucket hot rod.

I hope you have a great time together.

As for Kyoto, I'd love to visit it sometimes, so much history still intact !

Let me tell you this: I was stationed in Naha, Okinawa and having been to Kyoto several times. This is one of the greatest cities in the world; do not miss the silver and golden pavilions. I was just a young lad of 17 when I got out of high school and joined the USN. The culture shock of Japan was intense. I still have over 2000 slides (does anybody remember them) of my time there. Kyoto was my favorite place because of the religious and totally foreign to me culture.

Since I am not a single guy in his thirties I cannot comment further.
