Hello fellow kitty lovers!
About a week ago, my significant other and I adopted the new love in our lives... our little boy, Chibi (Chibi Binx is his full name!)!
Chibi is a 12 week old, black short-haired kitten! He has the most gorgeous gold eyes, and we love him to death!
We get such odd looks when we tell people his name, even the shelter thought we were nuts
, but there is reason behind it! To quote Wikipedia, "Chibi (ちび, can also be written 禿び) is a Japanese word meaning "short person" or "small child". The word has gained currency amongst fans of manga and anime. Its meaning is of someone or some animal that is small. It can be translated as "little", but is not used the same way as chiisana [小さな] (tiny, small, little in Japanese).
In English-speaking anime and manga fandom (otaku), the term chibi has mostly been used to describe child versions of characters."
Basically, this is a "chibi" character:
Chibi Obama!
I'm not an Anime/Manga fan myself, but my S.O. is, and he turned me on to the word loooong before we got our kitten. He was just so small and so cute when we got him, and his eyes grow SOOOO large when he's being mischievous and cute, we had to name him appropriately!
And his middle name, Binx, well... anyone who is a fan of "Hocus Pocus" should have gotten that reference!
Binx, the talking black cat, from Disney's "Hocus Pocus"
(If you haven't seen the movie, watch it now!! It's amazing! Great for adults and kids alike!)
Aaaanyways, just thought I'd introduce myself and our little one! Can't wait to meet the rest of you kitty lovers!
