I sat down and figured out just how much I was paying for catfood for 10 of my 11 cats. Beeba gets perscription so that is another deal.

I have found the most economical place is our Walmart. I sure would like to eliminate all the trips to get food as it is about 7 miles away in heavy traffic. So I would like to shop once a month for all their wet food. Well, they don't have 90 large cans of friskies and 120 smaller cans which is just what I need on the shelves at once time.

Do you guys know if I can order in bulk from Walmart? And say p/u once a month?

Just get it all at once and be done with it!! Especially with winter coming, I sure don't fancy all these trips!

Thanks guys.

Ask the pet foods manager if he/she can order for you. There is another manager at the Walmart where I work and she has lots of cats and they special order cases for her so I imagine they will do it for you. I think it depends on the manager but it can be done.

Too bad you don't have/shop at Sam's. They sell friskies by the 48 (5.5oz) can box that comes out to roughly .38cents a can. I can't remember what they charged for the 32ct boxes of fancy feast. They stock those out by the pallet's worth.
Make sure you shop around, though. Petsmart can sometimes be cheaper and has a brand that has a couple flavors that are ok quality.. (supremecat? or something like that).

Talking to the department manager is definately an option, and they usually won't hold it for you but could tell you when it would come in.Another option you might try is looking at WalMart.com.If they have the foods you're wanting, you may be able to order them online and they'd be delivered to your closest store and you can pick them up...no shipping costs. It's called "site to store".Any merchandise that is ordered from WalMart.com can be done that way...they send you (I think)email notification as to when your order will be shipped, when it arrives, and you print out the invoice and take it to the store with you.I worked my store's STS part of last Christmas and it was pretty cool. One lady did all her shopping online, came in and picked it up and she was done with Xmas shopping.Just a suggestion.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
I would also suggest the site to store shopping online from Walmart.com often times youll find that off Walmart.com youll get better prices than in the store and the site to store shipping is often free or only .99 cents. Also Sams Club may have a better deal also but depending on how much shopping you would plan on doing there like other stuff you would want to get in bulk it may not be worth it because you have to be a member to shop there.

Bf and I are looking for a new tv stand since our one dog has scratched the bejeepers out of the front and we found one we like in the store but I found it online at walmart.com and its like $50 cheaper and .99 shipping to the store.

Actually, you don't. You just have to know and have someone along with you that is. We've taken our in-laws shopping at Sam's several times.

(which reminds me. We let our membership expire and they recently sent us a free 60 day membership. We need to get up to the city and use that)

Good to know about Sam's! I have one an hour from here, which is how far I drive to get dog/cat food & cat litter.

As for shopping around, I stop into my local Petco (also an hour from here) whenever I am there. They often have cans getting close to the best buy/sell by date which I can often get cheap (and get used fast). I got a 6ish lb bag of Wellness for $6 (?) because it was so close to it's best buy/sell by date.

I think the membership is closer to $100 now? I'm not sure since we let ours expire this year. But if you can shop there a lot you'll save that much in 2-3 visits. They do carry scoopable and non-scoopable litters - tidy cat, iirc.

As for expiration dates, it's not as important in cans. They can be good for a while after, the same with the dry as long as it's sealed up. Though you want to stick closer to it's best by date.
I've never noticed sales like that at the Petco I've been to.
Though if you have their store card you will get coupons for 20-30% off and $5-10 off cards (which you have to spend 20-30+ to use).

Talked to the pet food manager this am at Walmart....yep, I can order and it takes 3 days. So I can get all my food at once. Yahoo!!

Now I just have to figure out how to tote out 15 cases of Friskies large cans without people looking at me like I am a nutty cat lady with 1000 cats!

Maybe I can make up a sign...like a disclaimer..."this isn't what it looks like"
and hook it to the cart. Or take two friends with me and check out at different registers!

Thanks for all the feedback guys!!

keep in mind friskies can be used with coupons on the multipacks/certain number of cans. on sale and with coupon it may be cheaper at another store. I use friskies as my wet for 36 and whoever shows up outside
just dont go on a weekend is my advice for anything more then one case
or you WILL be the nut ALL stare at!!!!

I buy Autumn's food at Walmart too plus her litter. It is much cheaper and nowadays every penny counts. I live about a mile from my Walmart, you can actually walk there but then I wouldn't be able to carry the stuff home. I would ask the manager of the store as someone else mentioned, he could give you the answer.

I avoid Walmart like the plague
It puts Rob in a bad mood every time we go there because the people in the Walmarts here think they are the almighty ones and will push you, cut you off, grab stuff in front of you, etc.

My in-laws take us to Sam's Club once a year (usually their "BIG" Xmas gift to us) because they have a membership. As long as you're with someone who has one, you can shop there. Or at a Costco.

Glad to hear your Walmart was able to order stuff for you. The ones around here are less than helpful. We used to get the water from the water machines when we lived with the in-laws for our fish tank since my in-laws well water had a ph of 9-10 and was killing some fish. People used to think we were nuts rolling out 24 1-gallon refills
But if we'd let them know the machine wasn't working or called to ask if it was, they'd get snotty with us, huff and puff, roll eyes, etc.

This made me laugh
And reminded me about the time I saw a man checking out at the grocery store.

In his cart he had a dozen chickens, whole chickens in bags all standing up nice and neat, and 6 or 8 large bottles of dish detergent.

It looked so strange.I wanted to ask but didn't have the nerve.

See if you can order it on line. Walmart has site-to-store ordering, and there is no shipping charge. I don't know if cat food applies. Worth a look.

<edit> I see you got something worked out already. That's great. Just a heads up. I used to try to order bulk cat food orders from Hannaford when I fed Fancy Feast. They would always either put the food out on the shelves or give it to someone else who was also ordering the same thing.

And wouldn't you know now that I buy food at the feed store I tried the same thing, since they advertise on the radio about offering this service, and never had more than a case at a time of the kind I was buying.

Same thing happened. I'd order the food. I'd wait for the call that the food was in (they say they call) the call never comes. I call, no one knows anything. I go in, my order has been put on the floor and usually mostly sold. I pretty much order everything on line now.

Anyway, hopefully your walmart will be more reliable.

For a while I had a standing order at a local pet store for Natural Balance, before I decided to go with wet food.

It was sporadic also. Was never there when they said.

I have to call Walmart, they do not call. She said site to store did not apply here. sigh. Since it is such a large order, hopefully they wont have room to put it out.

I guess time will tell. Fingers crossed.
