Bellaandme you saved Genesis from far worse than what she had already been through. You cared for her when no one else was there for her. There is nothing else you possibly could have done. I'm sure she was grateful for you getting her out of there, getting her to a vet and relieving her of her suffering.

Yeah, I'm with otto on this; if I were in Genesis' place, I know how I'd feel about it all. You must have seemed like an angel to that poor cat, and what could have been a painful lonely passing, was instead peaceful and loving. I hope I'm that lucky!

An angel indeed.

Imagine the relief this little girl felt when finally someone came... I don't doubt for a second that she knew it was ok as soon as she felt those gentle hands lift her up, and she was held close to the heart of a loving, compassionate person.

Genesis' nightmare was over the moment she was rescued. The nightmare for her murderer is just beginning.

This is why I prefer animals to people some days. I just got into this thread, and I won't go back and read the story of Genesis because I know how it will affect me. Thank heaven her suffereing is over.

The girl has been arrested on 2 misdemeanor charges? She will get a slap on the wrist, I have no doubt about that.

Several years ago, right here in my town, a guy's neighbors complained that he had too many dogs (7 Rottweilers). He told the police he'd found good homes for 5 of them. In reality, he'd taken them to a rental apartment he owned and let them starve to death. He got a fine and community service, and was ordered to relinquish his remaining dogs.
In my newspaper last night there was an article about a couple being arrested for moving from their rental apartment and leaving 3 dogs locked in cages with no food or water. Thank heaven the landlord rescued them before it was too late.

The laws are just not strict enough; if it was up to me, the abusers would suffer just as the animal did.

Hun, I do understand your guilt, but you LISTENED and RESPONDED and did what you could. You are an angel, and Genesis certainly knew that.
Her murderer should be the one suffering, not you.

Of course you did something!! Do you think that last bit of love was nothing to her? And the people at the vets were kind to her too. Her last days weren't spent with you, but she did get to know some love in them.

You cared for her and stopped her agony, a HUGE gift for Genesis who loves you forever and ever, no doubt about it. I am so sorry for your very deep sadness and I understand it.

The sentencing update made my day too. How could this girl do this, how could she?

I am SO GLAD that little twit is being charged for her crimes AND that she is being sued for the damages to the apartment. Obviously the money for the damages means much less, but to her it may just be added punishment and sink the message a little deeper into her thick skull and black heart.

What story did she concoct for her poor mother? I just can't imagine what that poor woman must be going through. Not only did she lose her longtime companion and friend, she also found out the hard way that her daughter is a monster.

While she most likely won't get anywhere near what she deserves for her abhorent treatment of Genesis (the max, plus), being convicted of the criminal aspect makes it pretty much impossible for her to fight the civil damages.

Darlin' that's not the case. She was brought into your life to give her last day love, kindness and meaning. Yes, because of you and your wonderful landlord the twit Genesis lived with will get a bit of justice. Beyond that, though, you have become a champion for her and perhaps for animals like her who are left behind as forgotten trash.
Maybe because of this experience or this thread you or someone else here will get "Genesis' Law" passed that will....do something(!) to make sure that other animals are spared her fate. Love can move mountains and there is no doubt of your love for sweet Genesis and the love that surrounded her from around the world during the time that you cared for her (and TCS through you).

A very wise friend of mine, also a rescuer, has said that sometimes the little ones who are in our lives and in our care for the shortest time can make the biggest impact on us. I'm pretty sure that the impact that Genesis will have on you will be as lasting as any.

Good! Let's hope that sorry excuse for humanity gets the justice she richly dserves!

I just don't understand these people. At least take the cat to a shelter, preferably a no-kill one, find a friend/family member who could take it, etc. Then again, some pregnant women abandon their newborns, after having 9 whole months to make plans...I simply don't get it. This makes you wonder if she was responsible enough to pay the rent, etc.

That was very well put. Your friend is, indeed, very wise.

Her mother was probably paying the rent. I hold the mother partly responsible. I guess I'm the only one who feels that way.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Just to add that even if this thing doesnt get the max for what she did, and I think she deserves jail time at the minimum, this will follow her around for the rest of her life. 99% of employers will look past misdemeanors HOWEVER this is classified as a violent crime and those 99% of employers that will look past a misd. maybe half a percent will be willing to hire someone with a violent crime. She will have to suffer for the rest of her life because of what she did and I know its not enough or justice but its better than nothing. I know a lot of people think that after 5 yrs noone pays attention to a past criminal record with the exception of felonies but violent crimes like this in regards to animal abuse and abuse towards another human follow someone around forever, for that Im glad!!!!

Cheryl, dont feel badly about what happened because you did what so many people wouldnt have done, you stepped up and tried to do what you could to help this poor kitty. You gave her final time love care and made her life better in the end. In my eyes what you did just makes you an even more amazing person. Bella did bring Genesis to you, but not so she could be taken away from you but to help you open your heart to another kitty in a way to help you not hurt you.
