Genesis' owner was arrested today at her mother's home!!!!!!!!
These are the charges;if convicted
1). Abandonment of a domesticated animal--carries a $1,000 fine plus
180 days in jail.
2). Torturing and/or Killing of a vertebrate animal--$5,000 fine plus 1 year
jail.
So those are two Class A misdemeanors. We still have to go to court. We haven't won yet, but we're closer, right?
I am elated and surprised that it happened this quickly. I hope to God that she is terrified and remorseful. I hope the guilt is eating at her. I hope I can take a break now for a little while from this stress.
I want to give you some info that I was given today by my landlord. The cat belonged to the mother. She had the baby since kittenhood. She gave it as a gift to her daughter when she moved into her first apartment. So she wouldn't get homesick.

The mom is in a wheelchair and lives 75 miles from here so she was physically unable to visit the cat. However, she said she called once a week to check on the both of them. Was always told that everything was OK. The mom is very distraught over this. I feel bad that she lost her kitty. Maybe I'll meet her when we go to court. I'm sure that Genesis had been loved and cared for most of her life. She just didn't deserve to die like this--no animal does.
Thank you all for your support through this. Knowing you guys were there for me really gave me strength to go forward and not give up.

ITs great but bad news.....bittersweet, its great that she has been arrested and looks like she will get punished but you still have to feel sorry for her mam who thought that Genesis was doing ok

Good. I hope she gets some sense knocked into her. Her poor mother. The poor cat. Poor everyone involved, including you.

What a thoughtless brat that girl is. Really really glad she's been charged and isn't able to weasel out of anything.

I can't even express the rage I feel at this. If I did, I would be booted off this site.

God bless you for being the advocate for the voiceless.

I hope she gets the max and then some.

Good news the girl is getting charged/arrested, though very saddening to hear the mother thought all along her kitty was doing fine.

I'm just now catching up with this - reading all the threads about Genesis. I am a landlord and NOTHING surprises me - NOTHING.
The nicest thing I can say about the daughter is that she is a piece of work. I feel bad for the mother but I can't imagine how she could give an older cat to a brainless 20 -something.

RIP Genesis.
Rest in JAIL - PUNK!
And heaven help the mother.

I hope she gets the worst punishment for her crimes. It still won't be enough. IMO, there's not much distinction between killing an animal and killing a person. If there's an animal crime equivalent to 'criminal negligence causing death' she should be charged with that too.

Justice for Genesis !

Thank you for doing this. I hope she gets the maximum sentence.

It is sad to hear about the mother. I feel really bad for her. This is a win/lose for her.

Oh THANK YOU for all you've done to see this through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just so horribly sad on all fronts. Of course the worst is what happened to poor Genesis. But I feel terrible for the mother! I do hope this girl gets the max she can - it is just SO cruel and heartless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But again, thank you for seeing this through!
And kudos to your landlord for being so wonderful in all of this and caring!

I love the fact that they are charging the ---------- brainless wonder.

The charges are the same sort that they can plug some people up here with, and that is a good step in the right direction. Hopefully she will figure this out behind bars--

This just made my day! How much would you have given to see the look on this $%&#*'s face when the law came calling??? With this, the punishment begins for Genesis' murderer.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see the speed with which the law is moving in this case. Bellaandme, you and your landlord have a secure place in heaven.

I'm glad this young woman will be brought to face up to her crimes.

I have to wonder why a mother would send a beloved senior cat away from what was probably her lifelong home in the first place, frankly. Did the mother not realize what kind of irresponsible person her daughter is? How could the mother bear to part with her cat? How could she think that would be the best thing for the cat?

My take is this young woman has been spoiled rotten all her life. I have no way of knowing that of course, but I find it very odd that the mother would let her senior cat go like that, it makes me think the daughter has just always been given whatever she wants all her life.

Or perhaps the daughter is on drugs. I think a lot of animal abuse and neglect stems from drug abuse.

Cheryl, I still am so thankful you were there, heard and acted. You saved Genesis much suffering. You're a real Hero.

I don't feel like I did anything for her. That's why I'm so obsessed now with all of this. All I did was take her to the vet who poked and podded her and hooked her up to an IV. I stroked her and kissed her and told her I loved her--but love couldn't even heal her. I am angry. I could have given her a good life in her final days. She was brought into my life just to be taken away. ..my anger is becoming self-pity AND I HATE THAT

I can't think of Genesis without weeping. Monday I saw an old dog who has obviously been abandoned. Whoever dumped him had a white car, because when I pulled into the park this dog approached me with hope in his eyes. When he saw I wasn't his person he wandered away, but at that time I didn't know he was alone.

The whole time I was in the park with my consumers (I was working) I watched that dog wander around, then he started walking up the road. There's a development there, so I felt some relief thinking maybe he lives there.

As I left in my car, when he saw my car he stepped into the road and again looked up at me hopefully. I burst into tears

I was unable to do anything at the moment, I had these developmentally disabled children in my car, that I had to bring home. As soon as I was free from work I went back and drove all over looking for him. I couldn't find him.

When I got home I called the dog warden and told them (left a message actually) what I saw and where. I've driven around that park and neighborhood several times since, but have not seen him.

Just praying now that the warden, or some other kind soul has taken this sad hungry dog in and saved him. The warden usually follows up when I call, but I haven't heard anything else.

I start to cry every time I visualize his hopeful face.

Gawd, I hate people.

YOU saved her from a slow dragging out awful death. You did everything you could. Please, try to let go of the "what ifs". What happened has happened and you did all you could.
