you got your first cat? I was just kind of curious. Mom had cats when I was born so I guess I was born to be a cat lover. That was back when mom had a healthy love for cats she had a calico and a big orange tabby I have seen pictures of them the tabby was called Thomas and she says I learned how to walk by trying to catch him and holding his tail and trying to dance to Funkytown

I honestly can't say- I lived in an area with lots of strays when I was a kid and I loved them so my parents fed them occasionally. Then when they had kittens I'd always take one, bring it home and my parents would sneak it out of the house and back to the mother, telling me it must have ran away. It made me so angry, and I think it contributes now to my anxiety of being separated from Jake. I am so anxious of him either running away or being gone one day

I was around 30. A pregnant stray wandered up and I felt sorry for her and fed her. She had 2 litters at my house and when they were old enough, she took them and moved on. Fred and Mr Kitty, the first ones that came back, were 2 of hers.

I grew up on my grandfather's farm. The cats were there before I was born.

I've had kitties all my life. When I was born my parents had a cat named Mitzie. Then we had Ally, Blackie, Itsy Bitsy, Callie, Sarah. My parents always had indoor/outdoor cats. My cats that I have now are all strictly indoor kitties.

They were brothers Frisky was mine but sadly he died at age 1 from male blockage then I had Whiskers she was mine also and I watched her give birth to my Patches.
My brother had Bogart also and he died from male blockage also.
Before that we had dogs, hamsters, birds, fish and rabbits.

I grew up in s small town, in a huge house with a big porch that wrapped half-way around the house. My neighbor was an elderly lady that had bout 15-20 cats. In the evening the cats would come over and lounge around on our porch. I was very young, but remember the wonderful site of all those cats!! This had been their routine long before we moved into the house so my mom and dad decided to respect that and allowed them to congregate. This thread just brought back that memory.

My sister's boyfriend brought me a little white cat as a gift when I was 6 years old. Snowball. But she wasn't allowed in the house, we kept her in a breezeway between our house and garage. I loved her very much, but she got very sick and passed away after 2 years. I wasn't allowed to have any pets for the rest of my childhood, but loved all my friends' pets.
As soon as I moved out into my own place I got cats and haven't been without them since.

Nuh uh...might give me away!
My family always had dogs, and none were mine. I dind't get my first pet (a kitten) until I was 22. That was when I had my first full-time job, and coming home to an empty apartment was really lonely. My boyfriend at the time (now my DH) was in his last semester of college and we didn't live together. We went and picked out a gray kitten, and I named her Rain (my maiden name is Cloud). She died shortly after from panleucopenia.

I waited a few months, disinfected all solid surfaces and went looking for a cat that was at least a year old. We found Scotty (named Willy, gah) at a different shelter and brought him home. Found out he was only 6 months old, not a year, but it turned out just fine.

I consider Scotty my first cat, but Rain really was. I just didn't have her long enough to really bond. I was devastated when I came home and she had passed on, even though I knew in my heart it would happen.

I was 2 years old when I got my first cat. I used to roam the neighborhood while my siblings were in school and there was a really nice older lady named Mrs. Borchers who lived down the street who used to take me into her home. She usually had freshly-baked bread that I would chow down (YUM!) and the BEST homemade pickles made with fresh dill from her garden.

Mrs. Borchers had several cats and one had kittens, which she showed me. I remember hanging out there all the time to see and play with the kittens. One of the kittens picked me (and I picked her
) and that was my first, I named her Kitty-Cat because I said, "She a kitten now and will be a cat later" so I figured I had it all covered.

When I was growing up we tried a kitty but I had a family member who was very allergic so that didn't work, even with medication. Now that same person lives with Sphynx, thankfully they don't do the same things to their allergies personally that normal cats do, also Sphynx are bathed all the time. There were also barn cats at the farm of my grandparents while growing up. But I can't say I really grew up with kitties, but they were around. I didn't have my own kitty until my early 20's. Always had dogs and other animals though my whole life growing up together.

It was two and a half years ago, so 45. The first time that Nina jumped up on my belly, announced herself with a little meow, snuggled into my arms and purred like a little moterboat, I melted. She's very much a daddy's girl; I'll usually cover up for her: "Let Daddy clean that up before Momma sees".

It was about 2004, I guess, so...around 34. Grew up in a cat-hating family. They still aren't fond of them, but one of the nicest surprises I ever received was an e-mail from my mother about a month ago, reading that if anything ever happened to me, that my cats would be provided for. Sweeter words were never read. By me, anyway.
