Jim told me he has been having dreams of the bed spinning, he wakes up with one foot on the wall trying to stop the spinning. This morning he phones from work, can you take me to the doctor. He was working under a forklift (heavy duty mechanic) it started spinning. Then the whole shop was spinning. The doctor says he has benign positional vertigo. He is off work until it gets better. He can't drive. some vibes for him and
sanity for me would be helpful.

I hope Jim feels better soon! I have had this problem my whole life and let me tell you, it sucks! It's just miserable! You can get him some over the counter motion sickness pills which help with the nausea but will make him sleepy.

The worst times for me was when I was just starting to lay down, as soon as the back of my head hit the pillow the room would go around and around and around. Every time you turn over the room goes around. It feels like your inside a top that wont stop spinning.

Oh it sounds awful. Feel better soon Jim! You too, lauren! Sounds as though yours is chronic, lauren. I hope there are treatments to make you both feel better.

I have the occasional bout of vertigo; I use ginger root capsules to help with the nausea. They don't make you drowsy.
Poor Jim. I hope he gets over this soon.

At the kitty's beck and call
Hubby had a bout of this after we disembarked from our transatlantic flight earlier in the year.

First thing - don't worry! There are things that you can do. Hubby has a brilliant Consultant who has run the whole gamut of tests as a precaution to make sure that there is nothing serious underlying this and we will get the final results in November BUT.....he is back to normal now.

Hubby's BPPV we believe was caused by the shifting of crystals in the inner/middle ear. They shift around and make contact with the little balance sensors and throw everything off balance. He would fall over when walking or getting in or out of bed. Lying in bed, if he moved his head the whole world would spin. He was nauseous and if he looked up would collapse in a heap on the ground without knowing what was causing it.

After he was referred to a Balance Clinic (and before the appointment came up) I did a bit of research to see what he could expect on the day and came across the Epley Manoeuvre, in the video they hold the position for 20 seconds, however in the recommendation from the balance clinic I looked at they held each position for 5 minutes and that is what we did at home.

There is no risk to doing this at home - hubby lay on the floor to do the manoeuvre and I timed him. we were sceptical that this would work - but it did! What's more, if you have an appointment with a Dr they will need to spend an hour doing this if you haven't done it already, to see whether crystals is causing the BPPV.

When we went to the consultant, he was astonished that we had tried this (most people don't know about it) but delighted too because it diagnosed the condition and meant he could move straight onto the next stage of the diagnosis/treatment.

Hubby hasn't had any recurrence of this condition since performing the manoeuvre!

Hope it helps

I will definately look into the ginger pills. The Dr gave Jim exercises to do . They make him even dizzier and very nausous. I will suggest him to hold the positions and see if that helps him.

hiding in the bathtub
This happened to me twice a few years ago, but since it only lasted for a day each time I never saw a doc. It was awful while it lasted though, so I'm thankful it hasn't come back!

Glad he is feeling better
