How often do you scoop?

You know, 'accidentally' flinging a cat cookie at your DH might just get him to help out a little.

I scoop once a day and I use the plastic grocery bags or the bags from the bathroom trash if they are full normally I use them. And if I had two cats I would scoop twice a day. The worst thing about it is the litterbox is in the basement so I have to go downstairs in order to scoop it.

We use clumping litter, and scoop when we first get up, and right before we go to bed. First we scoop into plastic sandwich bags (not the zipper kind), and then put those into a plastic grocery bag. We do this because sometimes those grocery bags have tiny holes in them and we certainly don't want dirty litter falling thru! Then the grocery bag goes into an old plastic tub with a lid (I think it's an Oxyclean tub) for storage overnight in the garage and we reuse the plastic bag again in the morning, mainly to save on having to use too many plastic grocery bags, to help with the environment. We're thinking seriously about buying brown paper lunchbags to replace the smaller sandwich bags, but I don't know what we'll use if they ban plastic shopping bags, which I sort of wish they would (for environment purposes). Then I guess we'll just use our plastic tub with the paper bags in it and carry that out to the big trash barrel everyday instead of carrying out the plastic bag everyday. That shouldn't be too difficult. It even has a handle!!
Now that I think about it, I'm wondering why we don't start this immediately!!

I have 1 cat and 1 box and I scoop once a day. Once in a while I forget a day somehow, but 95% of the time I scoop once everyday.

I, too, re-use plastic grocery bags. I check them first though to see if they have little holes in them or not. Holey ones become regular trash bags, unholey ones become litter bags.

I have some reusable grocery bags that I often use (I'm starting to hate them- they are falling apart after 2 years, and are obviously still some sort of plastic, so I plan to make a few on my own from fabric I have in the closet.), but when I'm low on plastic bags for trash and cat poop, then I don't bring my resuable ones and just get more at the store.

I also use empty bread bags, produce bags, or other random plastic bags that were part of something's packaging or whatever.

Well I will admit I didn't think of it either. It was my BF who started to put bread bags in the bag full of empty bags. Good thinking!

DH uses the bread wrappers too. He is the one who scoops - we have 2 cats and he scoops twice a day.

Four boxes, three cats, twice a day for the three boxes in the house. Every other day for the box on the sun porch. They rarely use that one, and it is usually empty. I usually stock up when Walmart has their store brand ziplock bags on sale, and scoop into those. I like the fact that it seals the stink in.

When I had 2 kitties, I scooped daily, mainly because Chynna was such a girly-girl that she refused to use the box again until it was scooped.

Abby isn't so picky, so I scoop every 2 days.

When we lived in a house, we had five - then six - cats. We had eight litter boxes, two of them Litter Robots. I scooped once a day and changed the litter robot bags every day.

Now that we're back in the RV, we found room for three litter boxes, and we now have eight cats. I just thank our lucky stars (the few we have) that this is working.

We have one regular size, one large, one huge. Other than the huge hooded one, we purchase those cheap sterlite containers and just replace them every month or two. SO much easier than bleaching them like we used to - and it still costs us less. The huge hooded one we replace about every 8 months, and I bleach it monthly.

I scoop all the boxes a minimum of twice a day, but usually like three or four times a day. We keep the litter deep. Funny enough, they all seem to use a regular spot in regular boxes, and we only have two serious diggers, so I'm thankful for that too, because it makes it easy to keep an eye on all of them....

I also use a slotted spoon to scoop instead of a "scooper." I don't like the size of "crumb" clumps those scoops leave behind.

We keep Nok Out around for regular household cleaning - we needed it in the house when Spooky had her peeing problem. It's great for cleaning up wet hairball throw up too. But now I use it every time I scoop by spraying a light "coat" on top of the litter after I've scooped (and wiping the inside of the hooded box). Then I kind of "respread" the top of the litter so it isn't wet. It doesn't clump this way, but really helps keep things fresh smelling! ESPECIALLY in our really small home, this is so important - not just to us, but to the kitties, I'm sure.

But the concept of scooping once a week is SO beyond my comprehension!
Even with a lot of boxes and one cat - don't they mind the smell?

I scoop every day, or every other day, depending on the amount of 'presents' Aya leaves me or how fresh they are. Somtimes, I have to leave them a while so the clumping stuff descicates it out a bit. (I mix clumping and clay type to satisfy my needs for less odor and expense and her need for nice sandy feel under her toesies)

She's one of those cats who sees me poking around the liter as an invitation to use it. She also heaps it up in one corner so eventually it can't get any higher. I have to scoop mainly to spread it out again. And she will pee on stuff if the box isn't to her satisfaction.
