A Husband, air compressor and redirected aggression

Yesterday was a nice calm day till late afternoon.

My momma kitty, Slick and her two kids, Beeshee Marie and Fetch were in their windows, (windows open with clawproof screening), watching the birds and chipmunks. About 30 feet away my DH was cleaning the air compressor. They are used to the regular noises, but the compressor let go a 100 lb blast of air. I was upstairs and I jumped and hollered out the window what was that?

In about 10 minutes I came down and heard a strange humming sound. Looked back at the cats and all you know what was about to break loose. Tails were huge, they were stalking eachother as if to say "ok, who make that horrible noise". The two females had a real prob with eachother, while Fetch was just comfused and following them around. I knew he could get swept up in the rukus if a fight broke out! Then it would spread to the seniors in the other room. UGH!

I kept the two females apart by putting a large box between them as much as I could. DH came in and prepared their dinner. Not interested. Just wanted to beat eachother up.

Thank goodness, it never came to blows, although it was so close! Finally got them to get interested in their food while talking to them in the usual tone I use. Grabbed my spray bottle of Feliway that I only use for vet visits and liberally used that.

By the end of the night, they were all sleeping and washing eachother. UGH, I was a mess..all I could see was dollar signs when I kept thinking about bite wounds and vet visits.

I love them dearly, why are they so nutso sometimes!!

Wow! Good job! The last time I had to intervene in a cat fight, [i]I[i] ended up in the ER. (The rather embarrassing part is, I was impressed that my cat could bite so well.) Danny is doing well now, and I make sure to keep him separate when I visit my parents and their cats.

It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it!! DH is now under instructions that any "different" noice must be reported to me at least 15 minutes before said noise is to be made. That will give me sufficient time to secure the windows!

It is amazing isn't it the power in those little jaws. Yea, I also got in the middle once and it wasn't good!

Too bad we have to learn the lesson to keep them seperate from an ER visit!

I don't know if it would completely cover the noise from the compressor, but the next time he's using it or doing anything else noisy outside try playing some music just loud enough to cover it. (or the tv)

Of course I don't know if you regularly play music sort of loud in your home so if a cat is not used to that it could bother them. (Mine are used to it, shockingly so much so that it works in the car on the way to the vet. )

I've had sudden noises spook mine. Most run and sometimes they will look like they want to redirect at each other. All I have to do is stand there and firmly tell them "NO, don't any of you even think about it" to break it up. Maybe it's my tone, but they listen.

THe noise is usually not that loud. But, yea, I have the radio on most of the day.

Can you come over next time and tell my guys the same thing???
