Sebastian is our 6 month Maine Coon kitten. While trimming his nails I noticed on 1 back paw pad he has a little horn - looks like a miniature nail or a wart. I googled it, and it looks like it's not a totally uncommon thing.
He seems sensitive when I touch it, so I don't really want to trim it.
Should I leave it alone?
Is it a sign of anything bad? He's FLV and FIV neg.
So strange!

After 5 minutes of futile searching, I finally remembered the username of the person who posted a thread with excellent pictures!

Here is the thread I am thinking of. I have one cat who gets her "horny pads" trimmed every time her nails are trimmed, and it doesn't bother her any. I did mention it to my vet, just to be sure it wasn't anything to be overly concerned about.

Yeah, it's not uncommon at all. One of my kitties, Allen, has them on all four paws.

Allen's don't bother him and don't get caught on stuff, so I've never had the vet do anything with them. For some cats, however, they are either painful or they catch on blankets and things and tear, which requires vet attention.

I'd say, keep an eye on them, and talk to your vet the next time you visit.

Here's one of Allen's paws:

My Fred had them on all 4 paws. They did not seem to bother him until he got really old and had arthritis. The vet said they may have made him walk a little funny as he got older, 15+. I guess when you get the the equivalent of 88 years old, your poor old feet just hurt sometimes. Unless he shows signs of being in pain or he walks really strangely, my vet said they were not harmful.
