Orphaned kitten seizures? too late? Help? - Page 2

Anyone know how to get her to poop? I saw that Goat's milk might help? I am using KMR brand formula now. She has eaten quite a bit and not gone. I'm kinda worried about her.

Congratulations on your new baby! (I'm sorry about your husband's grandma)

Have you tried stimulating her bottom like a mother cat would? Use a soft baby washcloth dampened with warm water (just damp not wet) or cotton ball and gently stroke her anal area as a mother cat would do with her tongue.

I think she will let you know her name soon. I took one look at her and a name came to me, but I won't say what I thought, until she tells you herself.

What fun for you and all of us here, to watch another baby grow up!

Thanks, actually any suggestions for a name would be great, I'm stuck. I have been using the cottonball stimulation and she is peeing fine, just not pooping. I am going to add some Karo to her formula I guess and try that.

Goat milk is a decent substitute milk, if you dont have KMR or other good kmr-milk...

Some brands of kmr-milk had been reported as constipating. So for example, the early variation of Royal Canines kitten milk was such a one - but their formula now several years after, is much better.
So possibly a change of brand or formula may be useful.

Butter made of goat-milk, is wellknown as a mild loosening agent. Often used here in Scandinavia, as we do have this goat butter sold at shops here...

In US they use canned pumpkin I believe... Common advice here on Forums.

Liquid paraffine oil is a strong loosening agent (get some clean, pure sort). (its is no hokus pokus and no real danger - vets use it too when necessary, although with some appropriate medical brand name).

People use sometimes other, fat oils, = food oils. May be worth a try, although Im not sure if it really helps.

Here on forums. Some small kittens I followed delivered on schedule. Some were NOT. Some cases it took quite many days before poop happened. And yet, the vet didnt seemed be much worried.

So. Proceed with your massages of the tummy and behind. Do ask the vet when you phone. - why, it is his patient, so... Dont hesitate to ask.
And dont worry too much as yet.

Good luck!

Well, I realize why I can't think of a name for her, she's not meant to be mine. I have too many pets already. My best friend's mom just lost her cat a few months ago she had for 20 years and we think she will take the kitten once it's weaned. I think it would be a better home since my cats aren't too keen on the idea of another pet and my finances aren't really conducive to more vet bills. I will continue to take care of her during the week and since she is much stronger now my best friend will take her on the weekends so I can get more rest. I am happy with her progress though, she's at 7 oz now! So, kinda sad about it but really I need to do what's best for her and my other pets. BUT, now I know how to help an orphan kitten should one come into my life later on again.

You saved her life and are her foster mama. How lovely that she has a home ready for her when she is big enough to go to it.

Keep us posted on the dear little baby.

(and yes, gaining such a valuable skill is a good thing!)

YAY! That's great news. Those pictures are adorable. I love it when dogs adopt kittens. Thanks for sharing the pics. Is your friend's mother definitely going to adopt her when she's big enough?

She hasn't really nailed her down about it, but I'm hoping we know soon. If not, she will stay with one of us until we find an exceptional home or we'll just keep her. I'm REALLY hoping her mom will take her though, she is good with her pets.
