Merlin made a final! (CFA Palm Springs)

I took Merlin (abyssinian) and Shareena (HHP) to the CFA show in Palm Springs today. The last ring of the day was SH Specialty in Premiership. Merlin got called back the the final, his first ever!
He got ribbons for Best Premier and 9th Best Cat. I don't know how many grand points it gives him. I didn't pay any attention to the official show count because I never dreamed he'd make it to a final.

Shareena did well, too. Out of 6 rings (16 cats) she made four finals: 10th Best, 8th Best, 6th Best, and Best HHP.

Cograts!!!
What is his show name?
I have the results for that show.
Is this him?
Yavapai's Merlin ABY 0, 0, 0, 9, 0, 0, Total Pts = 13.80
If so he got 13.80 Grand Points for the final.
Also did he beat any other Abbys?

Yes, that's him. (That is he?) He beat one other aby premier in two of the rings, including the one where he finaled.

Where do you find the show results?

I belong to the yahoo CFA Premier list.
They post the results there.
He gets 1 Grand Point for every Aby he beats also.

CFA awards two different kinds of points to cats in competition; Regional/National points and Grand points. The Regional/National points are earned for defeating any cat in competition and they count towards the Regional/National end of year awards. They are calculated exactly as they are won, and some years it is just a tenth of a percentage point that will prevent a cat from making a top award. These points expire at the end of the show season, with the exception of some kittens who will carry their points into the following show season if they are still competing as kittens when the new season begins

Grand points are only earned when a Champion/Premier defeats another Champion or Premier. These points are rounded to the closest whole number. They also do not expire at the end of a show season. Cats earn grand points for taking best Champion/Premier in the breed judging and for taking Best or Second Best Premier in the finals (there is a third place in Championship.)

If a Premier does not take best or second best Premier in the final but still makes the top 10/15 final, they will still be awarded points for each Premier they defeated. It would be like they were the judge's third best Premier. . . or fouth or fifth and so on.

So Merlin will get one point for defeating the other Aby in one ring, but he can't count the other point because he made the final. Was the final AB or Speciality? Since he made a best, he will get one point for every Premier entered, minus himself of course.

Thanks, FerrisCat. I'm still trying fighting my way through the confusion, and every little bit of information helps. So let me see if I've got this right.

The unofficial count before the show was 26 entries in Premiership with 13 of them being Premiers. The actual count was apparently 24, but I don't know how many of those were Premiers. (Wasn't listening to the announcements )

The ring where Merlin finaled was SH Specialty. That would make him 9th out of 24 cats. Does that mean the 13.80 points that Jacky saw on the list are Regional points? The most Grand points he could have gotten would be 12, or if both cats who didn't show were Premiers he would have gotten 10, I think. Either way, it's a lot more points than he's ever gotten before

Yes, the 13.80 points were regional/national points. If Merlin took the brown or orange ribbon in any ring (Breed or Second Best of Breed) he will also get regional/national points in those rings. These points will count toward the end of year awards.

You will need to see the count for SH premiers, as Merlin will only get points for the cats he defeated and he did not compete against any LH premiers in the SH specialty ring. However, it looks like the show had only one LH premier entered on Saturday and two on Sunday, so you are probably correct in your estimation.

In two or three days, you will be able to verify the number of points Merlin earned by using Herman online. Just input his registration number and you will get a record of the points he has earned toward granding. Good luck!!
