Hi guys! I just wanted to give an update on the process over the complaint I filed against my old vet and the tooth extraction that was done so poorly on Boo, and the other things that I suspect caused Boo's eventual death. I know some had asked to keep updated.
So far, I've sent the original complaint, both vets I complained about responded, and I responded to their responses. I received a letter from our Vet Med Board a few weeks ago stating they had to take a committee member off the case (reason not mentioned), and are continuing to investigate. My new vet was contacted by an insurance company for the info and records she had on Boo, but it was under a different insurance name than who contacted me (the old vet's insurance company)
The Vet Med Board also contacted my new vet and they have her full records and pictures/x-rays as well.

I am curious as to why the insurance company contacted the new vet and myself under two different names, as I had to sign a release form for her to give that info to them, so I saw the name of the company. Very suspicious to me.

The next step is from the Vet Med Board, which will be a dismissal of my complaint, a warning, or a hearing, which means we all get to drive about two hours away for a hearing. But I'm all ready for that, and am actually not going to be surprised if they do call a hearing. In any case, that's all that's happened so far, and I am anxious to get it over and done with. Unfortunately the insurance company is taking its sweet time in thinking over reimbursing me for having that mess of an extraction fixed, so I am hopeful to see that come to a close as well. But definitely more anxious to get this complaint done with. I have to drive by that place every Friday on my way to pay off my bill from the new vet, and I cringe and try not to think or say bad things on my way past.

And I've had a co-worker ask me where the new vet I took Boo was, because her father took his dog in, and nearly 200 dollars later all he was told was the dog was old, his liver values were off and goodbye have a nice day. No opinions, no options, no meds, no anything. I am disgusted by all of it.

Anyway... that's all for now but I'll be sure to update as soon as something new happens. Thanks guys, for all your help, support and compassion through all of this.

I hope something will be done about that bad vet.
I am so glad that terrible vet Coco wen to is in jail for what they did.
Boo did not deserve to be treated that way.
BTW does anyone want CRF supplies?

Thank you for the update.
We can only hope and pray that Boo's old vet gets banned from practicing anymore.

I know how hard this must be, but I really want to thank you for fighting for what's right - it's about more than the money, though I sure hope you get at least that back!

I'm proud of you for standing your ground and fighting for what's right. In Booboo's memory. Hopefully there will be justice and you will have saved many animals from this vet!!! I'm so sorry you had to lose Booboo in order to do that. But what a wonderful tribute to your little baby. Stay strong and know that you never stand alone.

Just a quick update - I -finally- received a phone call this afternoon from the insurance company. They only offered 500 dollars in reimbursement, which initially that is all I was after because to have the extraction issue fixed was around the 400 dollar mark, thanks to my wonderful, compassionate new vet. But, since everything that has come to light, I made it clear that I wouldn't accept the check until I had read over the release form, which I am praying does not have something in it about not taking the vet to small claims, because that is exactly what I am going to do. If it has any kind of strings on it, I'm going to VOID the check and send it back certified with a really long letter.
As for the Vet Board, I have not received anything from them since receiving a letter weeks and weeks ago about them changing a committee member and still investigating. So fingers crossed there.
It still hurts so much when I think about Boo, and all the suffering he went through. It feels like he's been gone for such a long time. I had a single dream about him, I had lost him in the rain and was shouting his name, and found him running towards a Roses (Store chain that used to be big), and when I got inside the first set of doors, he turned around and sat down, looking brand new, between two strong men that crouched and were really happy to see him and seemed to know him. I was really happy to have just found him, thought I had lost him forever.
Anyway... need to get back to sleep, but will update again. This fight is not over, on either side of it, so ... prayers and vibes that I can get a true victory for Boo here!

Thanks you all. So much.

Wow, I'm actually surprised they offered anything "this quick". So, I'm guessing the Vet Board is a completely different thing, like possibly pulling his license?

Anyway, congrats on this small victory, and keep us posted.

I did not say I was going to accept the 500 dollars, she will be mailing me a "release form" which from what she told me in our *first* conversation was only to release the -insurance- company from liability, not the vet practice nor the doctors.
Yes, the board is a separate thing, but I am starting to wonder if they know the insurance company is working with me, but I have no real clue. In any case, I am going to read over the release form and if I have any questions, will see an attorney. If I don't like what I read, then I will send it back with "VOID" written on the check, and a nice long letter detailing why I am returning it

Still haven't heard anything from the Board. pulling their license would be the biggest thing they could do aside from putting him in jail, which I don't know, I have low hopes of that happening. I would honestly be surprised if they even disciplined him at all.

The insurance lady said they were reimbursing me the 500 dollars because Boo was euthanized, and so they were repaying what a "replacement cat" would cost of the same breed. WHAT? Really!? You can't replace a cat! You certainly can't replace My BOO! He was so special to me. It's hurtful and I've been in such a funk I feel like I'm going crazy.

I am not satisfied with what they've offered, since they got every single note, x-ray and receipt they asked for and saw what was done. I think it's pretty crappy. I am in no way accepting that just yet, ... but I need to be patient. Makes me more angry than anything. Still fighting for Boo. Thank you for listening to me and my ranting

Yes, I understand this is an "offer" only, and you have not accepted it.

Wow, that puts a whole new light on it, that the offer is for the cost of buying a new cat. Very interesting. That right there seems very telling, as if they know there was wrong doing.

Well, don't let 'em off the hook. (I know you won't!!) Get justice for our Boo.

Oh sweetie, I'm just so sorry it's all taking so long! Sun Tzu said "The wheels of justice grind slow, but grind fine." I continue to send vibes that Boo's former vet at least lose his license to practice, because that should not happen to ANY animal, and certainly not ever again.

I find the logic of the insurance settlement offensive, but if you are not releasing the vet from wrongdoing, then at least it helps offset the cost of Boo's care. Is this insurance you had? Or insurance the vet practice had?

My heart still aches for you and
Boo

This is the veterinarian's insurance company. I do not have insurance on any of my animals. If I ever get to where I can afford it I certainly will. But yes, this is the vet's insurance company. :T And thanks for all the supportive words!!
