In the snow!!!!
Hubby and I were walking on the other side of town today - a couple of miles away from home. We were stopped, looking at some trees in a park and a little cat comes running through the parking lot maowing loudly at me. I naturally called to it and it ran right over, rubbing against my leg and giving me great snudges.

I picked it up, noticing it was skin and bones except for a wormy belly and covered in fleas and earmites. I walked the neighborhood, still holding the cat, and asking around if anybody knew about it. Some yahoo running a garage sale tried to feed the cat a donught - hello???? I don't think so.

Bottom line was that nobody, even the neighborhood cat lady, thought that this little guy belonged to anybody. The general consensus was that he was dumped off. I couldn't leave him, so I called up the vet and begged to be squeezed in for an appointment today.

The vet checked him over and tested him for AIDS and Feline Leukemia - he was negative. She said that the little guy is about 4mos old. He weighs 3.5lbs and most of the weight consists of worms. He was given a pill to kill the fleas and a dose of topical flea, earmite, and tick repellent. He was also given de-wormer and had his ears cleaned. He was too dehydrated to vaccinate, and he needs to be neutered. It was a really spendy vet visit, but I feel better about how he is.

I named him Archimedes - I would really like to find him a good forever home. He is the sweetest little guy.

Aww, what a handsome little man! I bet he's so relieved to be under a roof and having some food and love.

Look at him all tuckered out in that last picture!

As for trying to find him a home - I'd check with local vet clinics to see if they know of anyone looking to adopt a kitty. You can also check with local shelters to see if they would list him as a 'courtesy posting' on Petfinder (meaning they list him on Petfinder while you keep him trying to find him a home). You can post flyers are vet clinics, pet stores, etc.

What forces bring us to the right place at the right time to save a precious little life?

He is a sweet boy, you have a good heart to take him in.

WW - what a good thing you did, spendy or not! He's precious!!! And obviously relieved that his "life on the street" ordeal is over.

One thing really bothers me though - what type of person actually expects a 4 month old kitten to survive on the street? Would this type of person put a 5 year old child out to "fend for himself"?

unfortunately there are stupid people, who believe cats can catch a few birds and mice and fend for themselves.

Thankfully he found you
a very smart boy. for a furever home

What a lucky kitty he is that you found him and got him some vet care. that you find him a home (or decide to keep him and it goes smoothly).

They don't give a crap. All our cats, except Pixie, came from the street to our backyard and adopted us.
