Update on genesis' murderer...

I want to keep everyone updated on info as I get it since we all went through this together.
There was a message on my machine when I got home from work from an officer from Animal Control wanting to discuss her condition before her death and asking me for the name of the vet I took her to for treatment. I just called him back and he is coming to talk to me on Tuesday. I gave him my vet's name and phone number. I guess the landlord called him to see if and how we could prosecute her. He's filed a claim against her at small claims court for the damage to the apartment, but this is a separate issue. I'm very excited to see if we can get justice for Genesis

I just called my vet to give her a heads up about this whole thing. She said she would gladly give over Genesis' records. She said not only did she document everything, but she said that first day, after I left to come back home, she even took photos of little Genesis' emaciated little body. WOW what a great idea. Hopefully this will help....we are going to get this monster.!!!

Thats good hun, hopefully something will come out of this tragedy and this b***h will get her come uppance and justice will be done. There are too many people that get away with these sorts of things. I can still not understand how anyone could do that to any animal. I'm having a hard time wanting to leave my animals when we are on holiday and they are being looked after! Please keep us updated.xx

AMEN!!!! I don't know what the laws are there... most places animal cruelty doesn't register very high on the list of crimes committed. And punishment... well....

So here's hoping that she gets the full extent of whatever statutes are on the books there.

And PROPS to the landlord for not only being concerned about the property, but the living creature this girl left behind!!

Good! That thoughtless person needs to realize what she's done!!

Yes! So many people probably wouldn't have cared enough to pursue this!

I hope SO much that she is punished to no end, but if nothing else, I hope that she will NEVER be allowed to have another pet in her LIFE. She doesn't deserve it!
I just don't see how one can just shut the door, knowing that she is never coming back. I hope this results in some major comeuppance for this girl.

I agree. I hope this girl gets some felony time; I believe by the new law in our state, she would.

Good for you & good for the land lord.

At the very least she will have a record of animal neglect. Our shelter check the circuit court records of people, and we would certanly consider this a reason not to adopt to someone. If nothing else, she will have a record that will follow her.

I believe that there's a special, nasty place for those who would harm the innocent.

I agree with ALL. If she just gets a slap on the wrist...I will be so upset. I won't be done. I'll call the media, I'll contact every shelter in this city and the outlining towns, I'll ruin her reputation (IF that's possible). I'll do anything within the law to make her sorry!! I'm sorry for ranting, but all I have to do is close my eyes and I see Genesis looking up at me--to weak to meow--her eyes begging for help!! AND all this monster had to do was knock on my door, slip a note under the door, tell me she didn't want this cat anymore--I WOULD HAVE TAKEN HER!!! No it was her intentions to kill that cat when she walked away!!!

oh i do hope she ets more than just a slap on the wrist!!!!!

Me too, but I don't think the laws in Indiana really caters to animal rights. I don't know though. I have my appointment tomorrow with the officer from Animal Control so lets hope for something in Genesis' favor. I think the senseless murder of one animal is too many. I'm motivated because of that and because it's the one final act of love I can show for Genesis

I wonder about this, too. At what point did this person (a poor excuse for one) make the decision to abandon this helpless kitty? Had she thought about it, or was it a spur of the moment decision? I cannot for the life of me imagine how she was able to do that. Those last few steps to the door, the seconds before she closed it behind her...how on earth could she do that? It makes my heart just ache.

I completely agree with you that she wanted Genesis to die. She left no food, no water. You're absolutely right about the note, or asking for your help. There were so many things she could have done...

We back you 100% in your fight for justice for Genesis. Thank you for doing this.

Okay, I'm playing devil's advocate here, but I just have a question. Has anyone actually talked to this horrible woman - or seen her - since all this happened? I am IN NO WAY defending her - let's get that straight - but is there any possibility that foul play is involved?

One reason I'm asking this is that you mentioned finding a picture of Genesis in her apartment. So there was stuff left there. I just think it's odd that a cat-hater would have picture of their cat in plain view for the finding.

However, if there was no foul play involved with her, I agree that there is a special place in hell for her kind.

The landlord has talked to her mom AND she's OK. The picture was found in a box of junk in the middle of the bedroom floor.
No foul play--just a new boy friend she wanted to go live with--who didn't like cats...I would be very willing to "talk" with her. For about 15 minutes--in a locked room.
I'm NOT a violent person, but I make exceptions when it comes to this kind of stuff. She had NO compassion for this little one--she deserves NO compassion. I'm sorry I've gone off on another rant. We all share the same feelings about this and I'm so thankful for that.

That picture of Genesis haunts me. In the photo she looks healthy, comfortable. Someone cared enough about her to take the picture. How did she go from that contented kitty to being left alone to die in an abandoned apartment?

I'd like to know what the mom's reaction was to what the landlord told her. Unless she's as soulless as her daughter, her heart must be breaking for this poor little cat as well as the knowledge that her own child has no heart, no compassion. How awful this is.

Believe me, we all want 15 minutes in a locked room with Genesis' murderer.

You're not ranting, as a matter of fact; I think that you've been quite restrained considering what happened. Allow yourself to be angry, it is fitting to hate that which is hateful.

Just wanted to let you all know that all further updates will be found in The Cat Lounge. A fellow cat-lover here suggested it to me. I know more people will read about it in The Cat Lounge section. I do want people to realize how close to us a terrible thing like this can happen. If you think an animal's being abused or neglected, butt into the situation. If I had known my neighbor better this may not have happened. There is a distance of less than 10 feet from my door to the door that Genesis was dying behind. UNACCEPTABLE
I will now and forever look at my neighbors differently.

People are very strange to me and I can't quite understand why some people behave the way they do.

I don't expect everyone to like cats, nor would I expect every owner to treat them like a family member; but the idea of vacating your home (without the intent of returning) and leaving behind a sentient creature like it was a piece of furniture is more than negligence. It's diabolical. The person must be afflicted with some cognitive disability in the region of their brain that is responsible for common sense.

Bellaandme, do you think that your former neighbor might have thought that the landlord would have discovered the cat a few days after she left? I would think that when a tenant leaves, the landlord surveys the apartment.

That's a very good question! That thought would give me a glimpse of some humanity in her, but I don't think so. There wasn't any reason for the landlord to enter her apartment. She never gave him any notice that she was moving. I've tried to think of reasons to give her the benefit of the doubt because I don't want to think there are people like this in the world. The ONLY excuse would be foul play in which something terrible had happened to her, rendering her unable to care for the cat. My heart would soften for her then. I believe she wanted the cat to die. I mean, my God, she could've called Animal Control and at least given this cat a chance to eat, and drink and live! I pray the authorities BAN her from ever having any more pets!! And I also pray she gets help BEFORE she brings children into this world!!

By the time the landlord got to inspect the apartment (after I woke him up at 4 AM) it was too late--for Genesis.

Definitely it would be nice to talk to the mother - AND the girl. I would probably end up in jail.

I'l probably get the opportunity to talk to the mom in the future. I can't blame her. I'm sorry she lost her cat in such a brutal way. The fact that it was her own girls heartless action that caused it is probably breaking her heart. When I found out that she was in a wheelchair my anger toward her decreased alittle bit. Maybe she couldn't take care of her baby anymore. Her daughter obviously grew up with this cat. If there were no signs of abuse then why would she have reason to be suspicious?
I would like to just ask this ex-neighbor, "Why?'
But knowing why won't bring Genesis back, or EVER justify her actions. So I just concentrate of keeping the faith and hope alive.

If I was rich, I would start up some kind of foundation in Genesis' name where monetary rewards were dolled out to people who report abused animals.

It would be the Genesis Foundation for Neglected and Abandoned Cats.

I am heartsick over this.

Oh, thank you so much sweetie. What a wonderful and kind thought!! I'm so glad I got to tell Genesis that WE ALL loved her. She wasn't alone anymore and neither was I...

You are never alone, a couple little spirits are entwined with yours.
