Mouth Ulcers

Anyone have any experience with mouth ulcers?

Cotton just came back from his vet check for his blood sugar and it turns out he has 2 ulcers in his mouth... We have painkillers and more antibiotics.

The best guess at this point is that alot of his health issues are a calicivirus flare up and that he may have been a carrier most of his life, but with the bronchitis and the diabetes right now, his immune system was decimated enough for this to flare.

Does anyone have any experience with mouth ulcers?

The crazy part was that this morning he seemed to be doing a bit better again. More alert, a little more his old self (still weak and not eating on his own, but more playful and cuddly). I've read that the virus can run its course...I'm hoping we can keep everything else under control until that's the case. I guess on the up-side, at least we know now why he's not eating.

Yes, Wessie had a mouth ulcer last year. At first we didn't know what the problem was, he had been meowing whenever we touched his mouth, and didn't want to eat. We found that putting water in his food made it easier for him. This helped a little, but he still wasn't eating too much.
It took us a couple days to realize what it was. I was afraid that it was something more serious, and was actually relieved when I discovered that it was an ulcer. We didn't take him to the vet or anything, we just let the ulcer run its course, and everything came out fine. I'm not sure what Cotton's situation is...maybe it's different when the cat has two ulcers.
Hope this helped,
Eileen
