Cat Acting Strange: Hungry & Nervous?

Thread Starter
Our female cat is around 11-13 years old & she is an outside cat (we live on a couple acres), and she usually just hangs around the house or the barn. But she left recently and didn't return for over three weeks. Then, yesterday, she came back home, but she is acting odd.

She is extremly hungry, swiping the food right out of our hands & eating wet food so fast it's amazing she doesn't choke. And she has had wet cat food many times, so it's nothing new for her. And she seems nervous/excitable.

It's just not like her, she was always a lazy cat that slept the day away. Could it be worms? Or something more serious?

Thank you for any help you can give us & Tina.

I would suggest a vet appointment. There are too many possibilities to know what's going on without more testing--in addition to worms, she could be developing hyperthyroidism, or she could have been stuck somewhere without food while she was gone. It's best to get her checked out if you can, to rule out physical ailments.

I doubt its just worms...could be simple as locked in without food or could be poisoning or alot of things. Bring her in for a exam/bloodwork

Good luck and hope its nothing serious

My first thought was someone else is taking her in and not feeding her properly or at all.

Do you have anyone near you that would do that to a cat?
