My younger cat (~3years old) was just diagnosed as having the autoimmune disorder pemphigus erythematosis. She had recurring ear problems with bumps on the back of the ears that we took her in to the vet for probably close to 2 months ago. They found an uncommon bacterial infection and she was put on alcohol based wash, medicated drops, and oral baytril for several weeks. Symptoms got better but the bumps on the back of the ears did not completely go away and a week or 2 later she had a raw patch across the outside of her leg starting at the joint for the paw. I thought she'd injured it somehow and rinsed it in betadine then kept an eye on it. It faded away but next her face broke out with red patches from eye to ear. We made a vet appointment but she holed up somewhere that day and couldn't be found so it was delayed a week until today. In that week the red patch on the first paw disappeared and the red on her face faded to just bumpy areas missing some fur. However a new red patch appeared on the other paw in much the same location and now there's a patch under her back leg as well as some red in front of her ears again. The bumps are still on the backs of her ears but never turned red.

So today the vet decided it's an autoimmune disease and gave her dexamethasone isonicotinate. Plus sent us home with 5mg prednisone tablets to give her nightly for the next 2weeks then every other day for another 2weeks and we go back in for a follow up to decide what dose she might need for probably the rest of her life.

She is eating Taste of the Wild, dry during the day with a few spoonfuls of wet in the evening, and is indoor/outdoor but rarely goes out or far. I found her as a 3week old kitten on the middle of the highway in summer and she's been severely traumatized about cars and the outdoors since. Despite the fact we live on 80acres she rarely goes more than 10' from the house.

I'm just wondering if anyone has dealt with pemphigus complex disorders and what information you might have?
