Does anyone go to a church that has a monthly women's meeting? Our ladies at church are trying to get one started and we have met one time. My question is if you are a member of such a group, what goes on each meeting? Is business conducted and then a program presented and refreshments served. Please give your input.

I've been apart of one in the past. Usually it was basically what you described. A meeting sometimes with a guest speaker, fellowship aka food and lots of it (I'm Southern Baptist so you know there's gonna be food
) and that was about it. We met on Saturday's once a month.

Personally I found it boring and all the other women did was talk about their kids and I don't have any so I can't related to little Bobby scraping his knee or whatever...lol but the other women did enjoy it. I'm not a social butterfly anyway.

What would have made it more exciting is turning it into a bible study and fellowship. Break it off into at least 2 or 3 classes. One that's general nothing related to being a mom or wife so that those who don't who aren't married or don't have children would feel more comfortable (with it being general of course those who are married and have children would be welcomed in it too) and the 1 or 2 others that could be marriage or child related.

Thanks Lots of Cats. We are inviting the young women, like teenagers too if they want to come. Therefore I can see your point of view. It needs to be something geared to the people in attendance. For our next meeting one of the ladies is going to bring the program. She is very strong in knowing the Bible and it will be like a teaching class. We have a Wednesday night Bible Study, so I am thinking the monthly meeting would need to be something different. Of course there can always be scripture reading and prayer. What kind of guest speakers did your group have and what did they talk about.

The guest speakers were usually testimonies from some of the women in church sometimes someone from outside the church. Not sure what church denomination you are but if you have an association office (or something similar) you could contact them and see if there are a list of women speakers in the area who would love to come and talk to your group.

Yeah, at our Presbyterian church we've done about everything mentioned above. Bible studies were wonderful, but my favorite was "Mom's Time Out", which we started about 15 years ago. There were several of us moms with young kids at the time. We would meet at the church twice a month, drink iced tea, make popcorn and talk for hours on end. Wonderful times!

Now, all the kids have grown up, MTO ended years ago, our membership/attendance is way down, and there are very few left in my age group. (Same old story in many of the mainline denominations...)

So, I'm thrilled that you have folks who are even interested in such a group. I hope it works for you.
