One year ago today, when I got out of bed, I thought I was a dog person. I didn't know the first thing about cats, nor did I have any plans to get one anytime soon.

Then I heard a tiny cry for help, and stumbled upon a terrified, dirty little ball of fluff that changed all that. This was Sophie-Ann, 15 minutes after I plucked her from a condemned house, still covered in dirt and cobwebs.

Within an hour, she was mine. Sure, I tried to be "logical" about it...I was unemployed, I didn't know the first thing about cats, I had a house full of large dogs who had never been around cats...blah, blah, blah. In an attempt to be practical, I sent out a call for prospective new owners amongst my Facebook friends a few hours after arriving at my house:

I might as well have saved myself the trouble. I was hooked from the moment this tiny, delicate baby decided to trust me and cuddled up, purring, against my chest.

Soon, my "new addition" had a name...Sophie-Ann. Just like the fictional character who inspired the name, she could be elegant and lovely, but also wicked and wild.

We've come a long way since then. Sophie-Ann grew from a tiny, 1-lb kitten to a sleek little lady with a gleaming black coat and lovely green-yellow eyes. She still loves her mama, but she's quite independent at the same time - she has favorite sleeping spots all over the house, but she'll often come and find me to chirp a hello and get a cuddle. She is also our resident Huntress - if she's not with me, she can usually be found staking out the kitchen or the breakfast room for the ever-elusive mouse. She has the most lovely, high-pitched little Minnie Mouse voice, and will nag me incessantly if she sees me opening a can of food, or chirp conversationally when we're "hanging out."

Sophie-Ann pretty much swept in and changed the entire household to her liking. The dogs adore her, my family is completely charmed by her, and the entire house has been rearranged to accommodate her high-climbing, mischievous ways. We even adopted a brother for her to play with...and she does love her Jack! For my part, I've been jokingly dubbed "The Crazy Cat Lady" for my new-found "obsession." Who would've thought?!

Aww.. she's absolutely adorable!

When I saw Sophie-Ann I instantly thought of the Queen of Louisiana on True Blood. You defiantly picked a regal name or your little girl!
