Anyone know a noisy eater?

I've known some noisy eaters in my time, mostly my brother's kids when they were growing up, especially my middle nephew. But OMG! I've never heard anyone eat so noisily as a girl I work with!

You can hear her chewing all the way across the room! She eats with her mouth open and she makes smacking and sucking sounds.

And it's not like I can get away from her while she's eating! She eats while we are in clinic. And our prep room always has snacks that someone has brought in, so she's always popping in and out to grab something, or munch on something while in there.

When I got home tonight I decided to try eating that way. I thought I was going to go deaf from the sound I heard myself making! It was so gosh darn loud!

How can people not "hear" what they sound like?!!

That sounds horrible! I hate the sound of chewing too. My old boss makes some horrible noises when he eats. More mouth noises, I guess, I can't describe it. Yeah, I need to get over it. But I still hate it.

My dad is a ridiculously loud eater. Drives me nuts. Major pet peeve. DH had tonsil surgery last week and has been very noisy eating since he is healing and I can't be in the same room with him it drives me crazy!

My neighbour has 5 boys ranging from age 17- 3. They all eat like pigs. The parents have good table manners, but have neglected teaching their kids.

I'm not really sure what is worse, people who chew with their mouths wide open, leaving nothing to the imagination....or people who spittle when they chew....eww!

My dh scrapes and bangs and clicks his teeth on the utensils--NINE OUT OF TEN BITES!!!!!! It drives me absolutely nutty! One night I planned a meal so we could use chopsticks. He did it then, too!

I haven't figured out a way to tell him to STOP IT ALREADY!!!! He gets so defensive if I ever mention the smallest thing (even in jest) so I know he wouldn't take it well. Also, with my neuromuscular disease, I'm not always the most pleasant eater myself. Hard to look "mannerly" with soup running out of your nose...but hopefully THAT will soon be fixed!

At least my daughter eats quietly! Sigh...

C--who has finally gotten that out of my system!

I'm not around too many with poor table manners. The noisy eaters I've been around are that way because of jaw issues - BIL had a lot of dental work as a child, you can hear his jaw muscles. My mother also pops and has loud jaw muscles, in her case it's TMJ. Not exactly things they can help so I ignore it.

I hate the noise of eating in general...but when I met husband I knew we were going to have an issue. Seems culturally he was raised where the ENTIRE family ate like that. I have never been to his house for dinner and dont want to think of that!!!
Thankfully we are quite open and I told him either mouth closed or I can't be here when you eat. He slips (usually when way relaxed or tired) and I just say mouth and it works

Heck even the dog gets me at times(he eats outside as VERY messy but I watch him just incase someone comes up I dont want to deal with guarding/biting)
My other thing is gum/candy.

Nuh uh...might give me away!
Growing up I always heard, "Quit smacking your lips!" from my mother. Now I fight the urge to yell that at grown adults.

My DH's biggest peeve are drink-slurpers. You know the ones...doesn't matter if it's the first sip or the last, it's always preceded by that noisy, slurpy sound.

DH and I are pretty quiet eaters, but we do talk way too much.

I worked with a girl who chomped so loudly with her mouth wide opened!! OMG!! No one wanted to sit across the table from her during break time. I don't know how she did it. I tried her way and almost choked to death!!! And then there's the gum popping! WHY? Is it more enjoyable the louder it gets? Someone should've held a mirror in front of her while she ate

*shudder*

Hearing people chew loudly is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves of all times. I sometimes physically have to plug my ears my with fingers.
It's just one of those things that sends me over the top.

I blame her parents for this, she wasn't brought up right. I don't care for noisy and sloppy eaters either. Another thing I don't like that people often do is yawn and not cover their mouth. One of the most annoying things is having to look down someone's throat. You should cover your mouth when you sneeze, cough and yes yawn. Another thing mommy and daddy should teach their kids.

I admit to not covering all of my coughs. Depending on the degree of coughing, I usually end up on the floor curled up in the middle of a coughing fit. Nothing contagious since it's just airway sensitivity/exercise induce asthma. If it's too bad and anyone besides my DH is around I'll usually go to another room so as not to bother people.

I remember growing being told all the time chew with your mouth closed and all the other table manners which I hated as a kid. When I joined the Army and was thrown together with 50 other guys from all walks of life I never appreciated so much in my life being forced to mind my table manners. It was amazing the stuff people did at the table in front of others. It seemed such a simple thing to be thankful for having been taught while growing up.
