we have 2 young kittens, probably 6 weeks old, we took from a feral colony we are trying to TNR. They have developed small bald patches mostly on their feet and a bare spot behind one ear. I assumed this was ringworm but I used a black light on the areas and they don't glow green as I was told ringworm glows. what is the likelihood this is something other than ringworm? they are healthy otherwise, although i did give them Revolution. They are younger than what Revolution is prescribed for but I had no other flea/worm treatment at the time.

so how effective is the black light test?

Not always reliable. Some species of ringworm (I believe there are three or more) will not glow at all. But if its on the feet and ears, I'd bet it's ringworm.

Unless it's horrible, I'd use topicals. (Your vet can recommend one)

You can also get a lime sulfar dip from the vet but they are so harsh and burn the kitties. They work fast, though.

Not all ringworm glows - IMO it's not an overly reliable test to determine if it's ringworm. Can you have a vet take a quick peek at it to see what they think? At their age, it's hard to treat for ringworm.

thanks! that's what i thought since everything else pointed to ringworm. i went ahead and did the sulfur dip since the bare patches seem widespread, they seemed to weather it fine. such an annoying ailment!
