Hi all! I have only been a cat person for about 2 1/2 years when my wife and I got our two little Russian Blues: Deli (Delitechance) and Nina (Ninotchka). I hate to start off on a down note, but that is part of what brought me here. Our precious little Deli had to be put to sleep on Sept, 4th because she was losing her battle with lymphoma. The following Wednsday when my wife was picking up Deli's ashes from the vet, she was asking about shelters so that we could get a companion for Nina. The vet said that they recently took in a stray that had been hanging around the clinic and would we like to adopt him. He was completely up-to-date with all things medical and tested negative for Feline AIDS and FeLV. We leapt at this little godsend. We named him Nikolai (Nicky) and brought him home. Well, Nina got quite "hissy", but Nicky was a perfect little gentleman, ignored her ill manners and started trilling at her. That seems to have thawed her frosty little britches and they're getting along pretty well now and we think that before too long, they'll be playing together.

I am so sorry to hear of Deli's passing. I commend you for adopting another baby who needs you though! Welcome to TCS!

Although it is sad to hear about Deli's passing, it is also good news that Nina was able to find a perfect companion to replace her good friend. May Deli rest in peace.

Thank you! I never cried so hard over anything, my heart was completely broken, but our new little guy has helped us immensely with the healing process.

Thank you! Deli was actually her mother. We bought Nina, but when Deli was pregnant with her, it was a difficult pregnancy and the kittens had to be delivered via C-section. While they were "under the hood" they fixed Deli and she was no longer a "queen" (?). The breeder liked us enough to ask if we'd like to adopt Deli. She was a Grand Champion in 2004. We're happy that Deli got the chance to raise one of her own kittens and she was a great mother!

Thanks! I don't know who needs who more, but considering the timing of it all, it seems to be the work of a higher power.

I'm really sorry about your little Nina. Cancer takes so many away from us too soon. I hope you can stick around and share some more stories (and maybe pictures?)

Welcome to the site!
Thank you! It was Deli who passed, Nina is still with us, she's 2 1/2 and now has a new little brother, Nicky. Things are well and they've beome fast friends. Nina hasn't been this happy in many months. I've been looking around the site and have a hard time reading the sad stories, as Deli's loss is still fresh and it still hurts a lot. I have a few pics posted in "My Cats". Nina is the Russian Blue kitten (it was taken a while ago, but it's my favorite).

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Sorry to hear of your loss. A new family member hopefully takes some of the pain out. Nina and Nicky will work out any differences, and will compliment each other.

Nicky seems to have charmed the Dickens out of Nina. In the short time we've had the little boy, they've started giving each other "kisses" and play "chase me, chase me". Nicky has been a godsend and Deli's loss has become easier to deal with. He's such a sweet boy, but we suspect that he may have been mistreated in his life before he came to his forever home. Fortunatly, he's young and we hope that he'll be able to forget whatever unpleasentness he may have had to endure before he came to us. We're sure gonna do our part!
