I was just looking at the outside videos again. I think, the only reason that ship didn't capsize is because of the captain. The ship was turned and hitting those waves at a 90 degree angle, which from what I understand is the best way to weather a storm on the high seas. I can't remember where I heard that, probably some tv show I watched.

According to some articles I've read, the cruise line gave the passengers 25% off of their next cruise. Like that would ever get me back on a boat!!! LOL

Those waves don't look so bad from in the air. I just found this one at ship level. Hit front on by a huge wave that smashed the front window.

Wow. What a terrible ordeal. I had to stop watching when I heard the little child crying. :-(

hehe, as long as I didn't get hurt, I would actually like to be there

Does anybody know if the people turned out alright?

Many people I know have went on cruises and that did not happen. Cruises are actually quite enjoyable for most people.
My DH and I went one time and it was lovely and uneventful until the very last night, when a man went overboard a few hours until we came back home.

Hmm. I think I was on that ship. Well, not that specific ship, but I suspect the one I was on looked a lot like that. It was actually a fantastic cruise except for the one night. And yes, I would definitely go again.

I've been on two cruises and nothing at all like that happened. It was a lot of fun, and even after seeing those videos I would go on more in a heartbeat. Cruise lines and the people that work on them are trained in what to do in those situations and they do everything they can to keep you safe.

Made me feel ill just watching it, and yes well done the captin. There is no way you would get me on a cruse, I sometimes go back to the UK and that is only 6 hours and even if its flat calm I feel quite bad

The worst one I have been on was a force 10 that was awfull I had to take 2 days of work after.

Me personally would love to go on a cruise however Id NEVER EVER EVER go from the middle of August thru till October. We were offered a chance to go next summer for 100 bucks per person not including flight or the cost of passports....We arent going to go mostly because the group of people we would go with would turn the whole thing into lets see who can get wasted the fastest and last the longest. We would rather wait and go on a trip by ourselves rather than put ourselves in a comprimising position with drunk people we dont want to be around....

DH talked me into a cruise. He's taking care of all the arrangements. It's next spring for our 40th anniversary. All I know is I need to keep ten days of my vacation time for a cruise. The rest is a surprise.

I've been on two cruises, and LOVED them. I would never go during hurricane season though. I've gone in December and February. I'd love to go on another. Hubby is okay with cruises, but after our road trip he says he'd prefer doing those as you get to stop and see what you want, when you want, and how much you want. Which is quite true. I have been pushing him for an anniversary cruise since one leaves on our 3rd wedding anniversary in Feb

A few friends got together for a May cruise one year, they invited us to get in on their group rate but I didn't want to be stuck on a ship for 4 days with some of the other people they were bringing
I'm glad we didn't go, because the ships' stabilizer broke the first night and most of them were seasick the rest of the time. Saved me a good $600, woohoo.

Dottie and I have been on about 25 cruises and I have to say they are the only true vacation a woman or a trucker can take. Unlike an island, a cruise ship can and will change routes and move out of the way of a storm. We have seen some rough seas, but nothing like those videos.

I've only done a few day cruises, across Lake Michigan, to Mackinaw Island, the Kenai Fjord day cruise. They have all been awesome. I'd love to do a full Pacific Northwest/Alaskan cruise.

The sound of the child crying bothered me, too. But I love
cruises. I've never had a bad experience on one, just non-stop fun. A former co-worker was on that Celebrity ship's last vogage several years ago (it is probably on youtube, but I can't remember the name of the ship). It was in a bad storm, maybe a hurricane. I saw it on CNN. She said she was on the bed, sick the whole time, while her SO looked out the balcony window and made helpful comments. "Wow! You should this!" That type of thing.

That really was scary. I've never been on a cruise because I know I would get sea sick even in normal weather. Seeing the movie The Perfect Storm didn't bode well with me either. I think I'll stay off the seas :-)

I haven't been on a cruise but I would like to believe that the captains and the companies do their best to avoid really rough seas considering how top heavy those ships are.

This video is of the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk (since decommisioned). The carrier is plowing through rough seas with waves that crash over the front of the flight deck. While not as amazing as the other videos, keep in mind that the flight deck sits some 60 feet above the water line.
