This video pretty much says it all!

FB is not "secure" and "private" even with proper settings. Things can and have changed at any time, leaving your information out there in the midst of the changes. Also, accounts have been hacked before. The site takes your personal information and makes ads that match with that information too.

It always makes me uneasy when people with like 600 plus friends post when they are going out of town for 10 days for a wonderful beach vacation, leaving their huge house empty. I would worry about those type of announcements with that many people, many local. It just pays to use common sense in general when on the site.

It is fun however to stay in touch in people and it is entertaining. As a good rule of thumb just don't post anything you wouldn't want to tell the world on there. There are news reports all the time from people finding things that the page owner did not intend to share.

I joined Facebook to see what my nieces were up to!
I then ended up hearing from people I went to school with, which was sort of cool. I think it's fun, but I'm also very cautious with info I give out and who can see it.

I check my privacy settings all the time, I also never do any of the stuff they offer, as they usually post that message about the application allowing everyone to see your profile and info......I never do that. I also didn't give them my e-mail address book -you had to give them your password, and that just seemed crazy to me.

I like posting pics....it's fun seeing what friends and relatives across the country are doing.

But I have friends who are connected with their Twitter accounts and post on their Facebook page where they are at every single minute....geesh....who the heck cares if you're at the gym and now you're walking along the street and now you're entering work?! Good info for a stalker!!!

I mainly use FB to play games and to stay in touch with a few friends and family out of town. I hardly ever post anything personal. If I want to let someone know what's going on in my life, I send a private message to that person.

It does amaze me what some people post though. What I love are the people that give you a play by play of their lives...ALL DAY!

12:08 pm "My peanut butter and jelly sandwich was good"

When I'm at home, I sometimes am one of those play-by-play people... esp. around dinner time... I tend to not go by recipes so I enjoy posting what I make and seeing what others think. I've also found new friends on there, and reconnected with others... some from HS who I never would've had a personal connection with back then, but now they think I'm some sort of awesomely creative wild child...

I play my games (that's how I've gained new friends), blocked my own sister from seeing my wall posts (she's rather negative toward me), joke with my brother....

I also keep my wall to Friends Only (except my sister), everything else private, and don't use my real last name. When I see a cousin or someone from my past I want to 'friend' on there, I personalize the request by telling them who I am. I have an ex boyfriend who cyberstalks me, hence the different last name. No one here really knows my last name either, except those who see my name and address for SS. The phone number on my FB account is 'disposable' i.e. a Google Voice number that I can chuck and replace easily. I have some coworkers on there, but they're all in the same 'viewpoint' as me when it comes to the insane BS we put up with there.

It all depends on how transparent you are when you create your profile. My sister has attempted to 'be less searchable' by mixing around the letters of our last name... ummm... yeah. Real good job there.

FB gives me a way to connect with folks I'd never have connected with. I get into regular debates over faith vs. religion vs. athiesm with a couple of them... that's the reason we chose to friend each other... because we could have some lively debates. Yeah, there are some freaky psychos on there... but I do my best to avoid them...

Others tell when they are leaving home for their vacations etc. I just think a person needs to be careful what they put out there regarding their personal information
I signed up just a couple of weeks ago, mainly to keep up with nieces and nephews that live all over the country. I do have my real name, but don't intend to post any pics---except maybe the kitties. My page is private, and I'm very careful about what I post. No one can learn much about my life. I've also kept my friends list small (I think it's about 20). That's plenty for me to try and keep up with.

My family doesn't FB, and I'm in touch by e-mail with the people from my past that I want to be in touch with. I have WAY too many people I went to school with that I have NO DESIRE to be in contact with.

I married the one I cared about the most.

Your post pretty much describes a couple of my relatives in a nutshell.

Oh hon, I don't want you to think I'm talking about you. I love reading what you are making for dinner...it always make me hungry! But, I have a few friends (RL) that update their status every 10-15 mins from the moment they get up in the morning until they go to bed at night. I'm surprised they don't post when they are going to take a bathroom break.
THOSE are the type of posts that annoy the heck out of me.

That's why i said I was sometimes one of those... I've gone through phases where I complain about certain things, like at work, or pain issues, but I do my best to not do every .... little ... detail ... about what I'm doing. If it's one of my creative endeavors (and I'm ramped up on caffeine like yesterday), you may see lots and lots of odd postings. Hey, i got the corset assembled, didn't I? And the hat covered. Wheee!!!

I understand... I have my own things that annoy the crud out of me... those external 'likes' for example. I can't block those from my feed. grumble grumble grumble. I do my best to not describe some of the cr** in my life.

I know... sometimes (a lot of the times) it gets to be tooooooooo much! Then it get to be rude to block that person.
Getting up to go to lunch
Had lunch it was good
Now having coffee
Now having a nap
Now not doing anything
Now doing something
Now typing with my fingers on the keyboard
Sitting on the couch thinking about something to do
Wait, there is something on my mind!

I mean... come on!

I know someone like that.... And it get's me thinking if people sometimes don't realize that everybody does understand that everybody else DOES eat, DOES sit on the couch, DOES think, DOES take a nap..... not that exciting...

I think that it is great to share things that you think are worthy sharing...

Anyways... I do love how easy it makes me to keep in touch with extended family and friends, being so far away from Brasil and all... Love seeing the pictures people post... The chat is nice too...
I do like it a lot.

But it is certainly annoying from time to time.

I talk to Carolina all the time on fb and many of the breeders.
You just have to be careful what you post and I do not post pics of me on fb.
