I just got a kitten less than 24 hours ago. She lays on her back to poop and has not peed. I have tried getting her to use the litter box but she just lays down in it and sleeps. I tried rubbing her bottom with a warm wash cloth before placing her in the litter and when she lays on her back to poop. She is supposed to be 6 weeks old.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

DID she do poop - laying on her back or not?
If yes, what was the consistency? Solid, small sausages, or a wet mass??
OR is she only laying on her back in the litter and resting?
It is quite common they dont want to pee or poop the first up to 48 hours in a new home.
It is also common they use the litter as a bed as long it IS clean.
For example, you can often see show cats at the shows resting for a change in their (clean) travel-litters. (most cats are too nervous to really make their needs while on show - they do it when back home).
So stimulate her etc, like you already do, but dont worry too much as yet.
Does she eats and drinks?
A site perhaps useful for you is the www.kitten-rescue.com
it is for found or rescued small kittens, but Im sure you too will find something useful there. I remember it writes quite a lot about pooping and stimulating too.
One more. Is she a home-raised cat, supposedly used to the litter?
Or is she an outside cat, who really dont knows what the litter is?
What I do mean. Try to use the litter she is accustomed with. At first in any case.
Homecats: try to have same mark of litter as she had at home. Or at least one similiar.
A cat taken from outside, is prob not at all used to litter.
So common clay-litter, no fancy parfumes. And perhaps even have some earth dirt in. Or some leaves in - like they have it outside.
Good luck!
