It's raining out, so I invited her in

...and this time, she came in!

I spent a little time with Squeaky in my back utility room and bathroom, leaving the door to the outside open enough for her to go back out if she wishes. Didn't want her to feel trapped.

I put down a bowl of food and a water dish, and she had a bite to eat, sniffed all the smells of my kitties in the two little rooms, and marked the door with her cheek.

She went into the litter box in the bathtub and sniffed around in there, too, but didn't use it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she knows how - that will be a determining factor in whether or not she moves in for good.

After she laid herself down on a rug and started to wash herself, I decided to leave her alone in there for a while and see what happens.

I'll be taking her to the vet next week with Sissy, so if she uses the litterbox and gets a clean bill of health from the vet, she'll move in for good before the end of the month for sure.

My cats were all sitting just outside the door to the utility room - they know what's going on!
Most of them have observed her through the window and the front door, and Max and Bonnie have met her face-to-face through the screen door.

I'll keep you posted - could use some "use the litterbox" and "clean bill-of-health" vibes!

So I decided to close her in for a while yesterday afternoon, and although she "squeaked" for the first hour or so, she soon settled down when she realized that I would, in fact, keep coming back in to see her.

I left a tv on in the next room so she had something other than silence (or Max hollering at her from the other room - he really wants to see the new girl, LOL!)

She drank an entire two cups of water and ate almost a whole cup of dry food in a matter of about 7 hours.

I gave her the option of going back outside late last night, and to my delight, she looked out the door, looked up at me, looked out the door, sniffed a bit, then came around my legs to start circling me while rubbing up on me. She did NOT want to go back outside.

So I put a pretty new collar on her, she didn't even try to get it off.
And I spent a bit more time with her before going in to bed.

This morning I used the bathroom in there, and she didn't stop loving up on me the entire time I was in there. She doesn't want me to leave her alone, poor girl.

This is certainly a change: When she was outside on my front porch, she would never let me pick her up at all. Now she not only lets me pick her up, she snuggled up into me and started kneading my forearm! And I've been getting headbutts galore.

I think it's fairly clear that this pretty girl really prefers being inside. I have no idea where she came from, but was a whole heck of a lot thinner before she started showing up at my place for breakfast - and then lunch and dinner.

I can only assume she came from a home where she really wasn't taken good care of.

And the BEST news so far is, she used the litterbox overnight and again this morning!
She peed twice (not a surprize) and had one very smelly, unformed poop this morning. I am positive she's got some sort of worms or something ,to give her the the appetite she has.

She seems completely content at this point to stay in my laundry room and bathroom, although she does want to try to follow me out into my bedroom, but I've told her she needs to stay in there for a little while longer.

Now that she's inside, I'm going to make a vet appointment for her one morning this week and take her in ASAP. The sooner she gets dewormed and tested the better.

Now I'm just going to pray that she's healthy (and preferably already spayed!)
