I do 3D Graphics and want to enter an image into a Halloween graphic contest to try and win some graphic programs.

The theme this year is "Urban Legends"

Basically I have to tell a spooky tale and submit an art piece that corresponds with that tale.

I know I can probably search for "Urban Legends", but I would like to find something a bit more unique. Anyone have any "Urban Legend" type creepy stories that might help me?

Please share

I love urban legends. I read your post last night and have been searching to try to find a really good one. Some of my favorites might not translate to art, but what do I know? I'm not an artist!
I really like the classic ones, like the man who picks up the hitchhiker wearing her prom dress. But if you're looking for modern, there are plenty of good ones out there, too. The one about saying a name three times in front of a mirror has always scared the bejeepers out of me.

I completely misread that... I read it as a male hitchhiker wearing a prom dress. Not that some variation of that hasn't happened..

Why not go to your local library and see if there are any books on urban legends for your area?

That would make for an interesting interpretation of the story.

I also think something based on a story local to your area would be nice. When I lived in Charlotte, NC there was a bridge on Black Snake Road that was supposed to be haunted by a girl named Sally who jumped after being jilted on her wedding day. It was called Sally's Bridge. You were supposed to sit in the car with the motor off (no headlights, either) on the bridge and Sally might reach out to you. As a teenager, it was a pretty scary thing to do, so of course we did it. I never felt or saw anything, but one of guys in our group said he felt a hand brush against the side of his face. I wasn't on that particular trip with him, but he was so scared he refused to go back ever again. I just did a search of the bridge and now it states Sally's Bridge is in Concord and the story has changed. I guess that's the type of thing that makes it an urban legend.

i have 4 books of collected Urban Legends - titles: The Vanishing Hitchiker, The Mexican Pet, The Choking Doberman, & Curses! Broiled Again!
so i know a whole bunch - probably could come up w/just about anything you'd be interested in! Jan Brunvald is the editor/collector who compiled all of those.
