Sick Kitties - Off to the Vet We Go...

No point here really just need to talk to someone bout it.

Spooky and Mulder accepted Jinkers almost immediately. 2 days of separation and they were sneaking in to his room to meet him. Since he was checked by the shelter vet before he came home I thought it was safe to allow mingling.

A week after he came home he started sneezing. A lot. Off to the vet they said it was probably an allergy to something at my house he wasn't used to after the sterile shelter environment. Or could be URI, no way to tell if viral or baterial. No fever no sounds in his lungs. Stuffy nose and sneezing. Treated with antibiotics just in case it was bacterial. If viral just time for it to pass. Almost a week later he still sneezes but not as often and is acting like he feels great.

Yesterday Spooky (my heartcat) started sneezing. Today he feels warm to the touch and is lethargic but still eating and drinking and using box. You can tell he doesn't feel good. Obviously he has whatever Jinkers had. DH thinks viral and wants me to wait it out. I have an appointment first thing in the morning to see the vet.

Mulder has no symptoms but is going tomorrow also for the same antibiotic shot.

My kitties have always been healthy so this is a new worry for me. Thanks for reading about my boys!

Oh yea, it goes through everyone doesn't it? It is good both are going in. Your peace of mind is worth something too!!

I hope they get over it as well as your other guy.

Keep us posted. It sounds like you have a nice little group there!

Sending vibes for your babies! I've been through it so many times with fosters. Luckily my own babies never get sick because I try to really make sure there is no contact. I think they're pretty immune to it now as well.

Spooky and Mulder. Like you I found it impossible to keep my new kitten segregated more than a week.

I'd be bringing them in too. Keep us posted.

Spooky and Mulder did great at the vet. Spooky still wasn't feeling himself so he was more reserved but both were polite and well behaved. Vet decided definately a URI on Spooky and gave both of them a 10 day long lasting antibiotic shot which is the same thing Jinkers got last week and he's feeling much better now. I also have some ointment to use in Spooky's eyes to help with the drainage. No fever for either of them and it seems we caught the infection early enough to treat it without it turning into anything more sinister. The vet mentioned these sort of infections are very commonly passed around in shelters, so in the future I should keep any new additions isolated from the other cats for at least 2 weeks to make sure there is no infection before introducing.

Glad you got your gang to the vet quickly. Hope they're on the mend soon and feeling better again. How's Jinkers doing?
