Mom is going into the hospital, Monday. She's having trouble getting food down and they're going to endoscope her, to rule out a blockage. Hopefully, it is just esophageal spasms - THAT is treatable with medication.

The main problem is the anesthesia. Last year, when she had her gallbladder out, she developed pneumonia and blood clots in her lungs. She is STILL on anticoagulants, from that.

Between the diabetes, heart problems and stroke complications, Mom is NOT a good surgery risk.

Cindy, I'm wishing you Mom the best of luck. Sounds like she's having a rough go at it. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks, Sherral, Ted and everyone else. Her name is Mary and she just turned 67, on Monday. I know that she and my dad are worried. I am, too but I make jokes and try to keep her from breaking down.

When she had her gallbladder out, my dad and I were with her, in pre-op and he kept tickling her feet because it drives her crazy and makes her laugh.

Mom came through, just fine. I just got off of the phone with her.

The problem is esophageal spasms and they've prescribe something to control that. That's a whole lot better than a malfunctioning valve or a stricture. She sounded perky on the phone. I'm going to stop by, after work, one day this week. I'm altering some pants for my nieces and need to deliver them.

I can show off my new car, too!

Thanks to everyone for their concern. The old broad's almost as tough as I am!

I'm very glad to hear your mother is doing fine! Can I ask you what they treat her esophageal spasms with?
