Hey guys

I see that there is a question like the one i have but dont know if mine might be different.

I noticed this morning that there was a very small amount of blood on one of my cats poo's. I forgot to clean her litter box out yesterday and looked at the other ones and there was nothing on them at all. There was no color change in them at all, I heard that black stool can be bad but her's were any different color then before. I also did a little investagating and looked at the inside of the poop ( gross I know, but wanted to see if there was any inside ) and there wasnt anything, it was only on the outside. She is still eating drinking and playing normal. I wouldnt have even noticed the small amount of blood if it wasnt for the sun shining directly in. Should I be concerned or chances are this is a one off thing? also forgot to mention she is a indoor cat only, never ever been outside before, aside from vets visits and when we moved.

Thanks for any help

Jeremy

Again it was very hard to see but Im sure I saw blood

Was it a rather firm stool? Sometimes there can be a little blood with that if they had to strain. (note, not that this is good, just an easy explanation)

Call your vet, explain the situation, and see what they want you to do.

It was kind of hard yeah, My vet will never explain anything over the phone to us, they will always say bring her in for any question we have ( I think just to catch us on a visit bill )One time in the winter I called to ask if there was a something to use on my cats skin because it was dry and flaky ( its gets about -25c here in the winter so the house is dry and she gets dry skin like the rest of us ) and they told me to bring her in then, wouldnt tell us anything over the phone to use

That was likely the cause, then. Hard stools can be a serious problem if they're chronic so it is a vet issue.

As for her skin last winter, there's nothing you can actually put on a cat to help their skin. You can however supplement with fish oil, make sure kitty is drinking enough water, and run a humidifier to help combat the low humidity.
While dry skin can be a sign of thyroid problems, that wouldn't be seasonal.

If the blood is bright red, minimal, and doesn't recur, it's probably not time-critical -especially if she's eating, peeing, pooing and playing normally. But, doesn't hurt to make a little calendar noting the occurrence, and anything off that might have happened around the same time - different food, stress in the household, whatever - to show the vet, to see if there's a pattern.

It's happened to my boy (and, to me, actually) - normally it's nothing to freak about, as long as it's a rare occurrence. However, if you see it again tomorrow, let's say - I'd at least call the vet. but I know how you feel - I honestly called the vet faster (same day) than I called my own doctor when I had basically the same issue.

Boo had this problem very, very occassionally when his poo's would be very firm. I agree with all other posters. And don't worry about investigating poop, most of us here love investigating poop so we know what's going on, and pee, too! I keep latex gloves in the house JUST for this purpose. Had to break apart Chickster's poo yesterday because I saw something stringy in it. Good on you for being an observant Momma!!
