This is proof of how often I get "dressed up".

We had a funeral to attend on Saturday. I had on nice dress pants and a blazer. My shoes were slip on flats.

I went back to secure my cats doors and windows just before we left. Well, Slick and her two kids Beeshee Marie, and Fetch puffed up at the sight of me!
They cautiously came up to me stretching their necks not to get too close!! Their tails were all bushy!!

When they realized it was "mom", they deflated and probably thought, "oh it's her. Man, what the heck is she wearing? Where are her jeans and sneakers?"

I get the same reaction when I get dressed up, even if it's just slacks instead of jeans. I don't wear heels anymore, but on the rare occasion that I did the cats actually ran from me!

That happened to my ex when he cut his long hair when he went to army. His cat did exactly as yours when she saw him.. The cat was almost as shocked as I was (I'm a 'long hair person'
)..

LOL! Isn't it amazing that cats know what their moms are supposed to look like??

Oddly, I don't get that reaction from the cats when I get dressed up (clean jeans, city shirt, blazer) but the horses will bug out their eyes and blow and snort at me. The house cats DO expect treats when I get dressed, and the barn cats still try to cover me with hair to take with me as a reminder of them.

I love it!!! I can just picture the puffing up and then the deflation
....oh, by the way, SK_Pacer, your barn cats & I have something in common - cat hair can be considered an accesssory

How funny!
Not knowing someone does not deter my cat from being all over them one bit

Followed by an obligatory leg rub

Oh yeah, my cats are so used to me being barefoot that all I have to do is put on a pair of shoes, even flipflops, and walk around inside, and it freaks them out!

Try wearing 19th or 18th C. clothing, and see what happens!
My cats have always been terrified of the big, bad skirts. I've been sewing a new 18th C. reenacting gown over the weekend, and was still wearing my corset, shift, and petticoat around the house when I took breaks. That, combined with the funny shoes, really get 'em running!

I had a cat in the hat hat and my cat Linus was scared of it when I would wear it. Acted like he didn't know me. So yeah, outfits sometimes do the tricks with those animals. Funny...
