My Dad and I went over to East Fork State Park Sunday to do some fishing in the new boat and we were skunked. I never get skunked. Only one bite. We may go back tonight and do some late afternoon/early evening fishing if Dad doesn't have to work. Sunday's strategy involved the use of crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and live bait (minnows). If we go tonight we are using a new strategy. Jigs tipped with Uncle Josh's pork frogs, Carolina rigged artificial worms, and shiners.

Sorry about the bad fishing. My DH and son are out now on Lake Alice, a large inland lake off Lake Ontario.

Fishing has been lousy all summer long. I think it was the extreme heat.

So don't feel too bad. Maybe with the cooler weather things will turn around.

It's been a hot summer. I don't know if the heat finally breaking had anything to do with it or not. We did see a thousands of minnows, though. There were schools of them swimming beneath the surface. It was neat, it looked like small clouds moving around in the water.

We ended up not going tonight. We are both too tired and too sore from yesterday.

Try buying a can of biscuits and making little dough balls or cheese balls and using that it is pretty good bait. But I normally just use live worms.

My husband and his friend went red drum fishing Saturday evening. They caught four old drum, weighing 30-45 lb. each.

I haven't used either of those much in the past but I do recall catching a few carp and catfish with dough/cheese balls. I've been a live bait fisherman (minnows, shiners, chubs, crawdads) all of my life. I've been starting to dabble with the use of various artificial baits because of the boat.

I'm too far landlocked for red drum, but the way things were going yesterday I would have settled for a freshwater drum. Oh well, it is called fishing, and not catching for a reason.

On the bright side it was nice to get out and enjoy a day in the sun surrounded by water and beautiful scenery that not only included schools of minnows and the occasional jumping fish, but also butterflies, osprey, geese, ducks, turtles, Great Egrets, and Great Blue Herons. During a visit to the lake in the Spring before our yearly trip to Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee we saw a mink.

Oh, no! So sorry you didn't catch anything. But I always have a good time, whether I catch many or not.
