Queen Eva is now 11 weeks old, and has been here three weeks as of yesterday. She was integrated two weeks ago.
Tolly (11) is besotted, Mazy (6) is thrilled to have another playmate, and Jennie (4 1/2) is doing a lot of stomping around and swearing. LOL! Jennie swears like a sailor. You should hear her, she would blister your paint! Queen Eva pays not the slightest bit of attention to Jennie's noise.
Jennie wants to make sure Queen Eva knows her place. Jennie is Second Cat, and intends to stay there. Queen Eva, so far anyway, is quite submissive to all three of the big cats, but in a "I'm a cute baby and I know you like to play with me" way, not fearful. Queen Eva has no fear. Why should she? She's Queen Eva!.
They are all three wonderfully gentle with her, even Jennie. When Jennie punches Queen Eva,(cussing all the while) she actually misses her, and I'm positive it's on purpose. Even though Jennie lets her swats miss, Queen Eva goes into a dramatic roll, you know; falling onto the floor in a somersault: "I'm hit!" or "She got me!". heehee
When Tolly or Mazy Tumbles her, or knocks her down, they barely touch her. Tolly I expected to be this way because he was so so gentle and careful playing with his beloved Ootay
when she got old and fragile. Mazy can be pretty rough, so I am a little surprised to see she is almost as gentle as Tolly.
Tolly, as Top Cat, has taken charge of Queen Eva's training in manners and Games and things. He's teaching her how to talk! She's not very vocal, yet, but I've heard her answer Tolly a few times, and she's answered me twice, now.
Tolly talks to her constantly when they are playing. Brrrups, mrrps, meeps, peeps, trills, meows...he has a widely varied repertoire of sounds.
Queen Eva follows Tolly around and copy-cats him. If Tolly plays Hide and Peek with her, later on that day she plays Hide and Peek with him. When she sees him dive under a rug in play, the next thing you know, Queen Eva is diving under rugs. Stuff like that.
It's actually worrying me a little because Queen Eva is still quite clumsy and I'm afraid she will get hurt trying to follow or emulate one of Tolly's more intricate leaps.
They play four-way Chase Me Chase You! Jennie is hilarious, she watches the other three thunder around the house a few times, then takes a strategic position for Ambush. Her target will spring up into the air (also hilarious) or go into a roll as she pounces, cursing like always. This goes on for quite a long time every night, after Interactive Games..
I am trimming nails every Sunday so no one gets hurt. Queen Eva has now had this done three times.
The first time she screamed deafeningly the entire time and struggled and scratched me to pieces with her tiny baby claws, while I tried inexpertly to keep her wrapped. I've never had to wrap a cat before, but Queen Eva needs to be, though not for much longer I don't think.
The second week I was a bit better at the kitten wrapping, and while she screamed very loud, and did get some scratches in (I haven't attempted her hind feet at all yet), there were two slight pauses in her noise.
Yesterday, the third time, I wrapped her like an expert (
) and was able to extract the paw I wanted while keeping the rest of her restrained. Her scream was not as loud, and the pauses of calm were longer.
Queen Eva is polydactyl, and that is new to me too. It's tricky to get that tiny transparent claw deep in the cleft, but I have managed to do it.
Queen Eva has learned how to take turns with the other cats during Interactive Game time. I wondered if it would be a problem, you know, because the other cats love their Game time with me, and I was afraid they might get frustrated with her barging in all the time, but she learned quickly how to wait her turn.
She has also learned not to barge into other cats' food dishes, but to wait for her own.
Queen Eva is really smart and we all love her to distraction. (even Jennie, though she denies it
)
