1 month old kitten

I have a one month old kitten who I am having to feed and take care of as her mother wont feed her no matter how hard I tried. She is the runt of the litter and today I noticed that she is wanting to do nothing but sleep. I have been waking her up every three hours to feed her then she goes back to sleep. Is that normal? If not what should I do?

Hey Angel,

someone will be along to answer your question soon!

It doesn't sound good, if her mother has rejected her and she's not active, it sounds like a very bad sign. I'd recommend getting her to a vet ASAP. What are you feeding her? Is she being kept warm? Is she peeing/pooping normally?

Idealy a vet visit but at this young age they may offer little hope far as treatments unless you got a fairly experienced vet.
If thats out of range continue to support her with feedings and keeping her warm but do know this is not normal and if she survives there may be a more serious underlying issue.

Good luck to you

AngelEyez is an online friend of mine and I do know she is keeping the kitten warm. I told her about the rice sock. From what she has told me, she is feeding her a formula that the vet gave her.

I also told her to register here since all you guys can give much better advice then I ever can. I told her you were a great bunch!

Young kittens do sleep a lot but at that age she should be playing and being active when awake. How much formula does she take? Are you forcing it into her or does she take it eagerly? Have you tried her on canned food mushed up with KMR? She's at the age that she can start on solids.

when she is awake she walks around but the vet told me to keep her on the formula till she is taking more formula than what is being made. shes only taking any where between 2 and 2 1/2 teaspoons. Sometimes she takes it eagerly other times she is being forced to eat it

Is she taking that amount a day or at each feeding?

Took her to the vet again yesterday they admitted her gave her a blood transfusion, Ivy, and a tube down her because she was really weak. They thought she had leukemia and thank goodness the tests came back negative. She does though have the dwarf syndrome, and has deformities in her feet. They told me since she is doing a LOT better to feed her wet kitten food every half hour and give her water to stop her from dehydrating. They also said to keep her warm still cause she can not hold her body temp. still. But they are giving her 4 - 5 years to live. She came home today so I am happy that she is healthy other than what I have mentioned

I am curious, what deformities are you talking about? She could be a munchkin cross, or she could just be a victim of inbreeding. But if deformities are multiple toes- then she is a polydactyl and they are wonderful kitties- very smart. Hopefully, that is what you meant by deformities- and not something else?

its more of her toes are more spread than normal cats the pads on her toes are off to the side a bit. she has the normal amount of feet. Otherwise I dont remember what else was wrong if anything to her feet/legs

I heard from AngelEyez and Kitty went over the bridge yesterday. I don't know the details yet. She was doing great on Saturday. She had been eating on her own at the time I was talking to her was sleeping in her food dish. She had woken up, ate a little and went to sleep again.

I haven't spoken to her as to what happened but will tonight. Once I do, I will post in the Bridge.

Mods, please close this thread. Play happily over the bridge little Kitty.
