Sorry this is going to be long ...

Geraldine was left behind when her elderly owner moved to assisted living last fall. She is a 9-10 year-old tortoiseshell who weighs about 7 pounds.

My friend is a neighbor of the owner. She has a colony, all of which are fixed. Of course Geraldine found her. At the time, her tongue was hanging out of her mouth, she drooled constantly and she smelled!

My friend doesn't make much money, so if someone needs a vet, I usually take them. Geraldine had not been spayed and had an abcess around her rotten teeth. A shot of Covenia, tooth removal and a spay later, she was soon doing well.

Last week, I delivered some food to my friend and saw Geraldine for the first time since February. Her coat looked awful! I asked my friend and she said she hadn't wanted to tell me about it because it came and went. Apparently, Geraldine has groomed herself bald.

I made an appointment and we took her. That vet said it was either food allergies or flea allergies. (My freinds treats everyone in the summer but had missed Geraldine this month)

She got a shot of Covenia as there was some skin infection and the vet updated her shots.

He also found large lumps in her groin and under her neck. He said if they cleared up with Covenia, it was infection. If not, it's probably cancer. Anyone have an experience with this?

Geraldine lives mostly outside (my friend has a shed fixed up for her outside cats.)

We got some Proplan (kitten) just for her and my friend is going to monitor her. Geraldine will not come into the house at all, so ...

Any thoughts?

All vibes will be appreciated.

Poor baby has had a rough time of it. Still, she's a very lucky kitty to have you and your friend caring for her.

Covenia is new to me, so I can't add anything about that. But I'm wondering if the lumps she has might be lipomas. My little guy has one. They're benign fatty tumors and they can easily be diagnosed with a fine needle aspiration.
My vet was sure my cat's lump was a lipoma but did the aspiration because I felt better being 100% certain. It took just a few minutes for him to examine the cells under the microscope. You might ask the vet if this is a possibility for Geraldine.

Lots of good thoughts going out to you, your friend and especially Geraldine.

Hope she'll soon be doing better. Please let us know
