question about cat's itching/fleas

I have had a horrible flea problem for the last month that is only getting worse.

I comb my cats all day - yesterday i found a lot - today not many at all. HOWEVER they continue to scratch now.
Should i assume im not getting all the fleas - OR could they be scratching from the flea bites?

ALSO would anyone be able to tell me why out of my 3 pets - only one cat had flea dirt (it would turn the water red and smell like blood) ??? He no longer has this issue - but it was just weird that the other 2 did NOT have flea dirt.

Just to let it be known....

Ive tried:
Apple cider vinegar
diatomacous earth
garlic (on dog)
white vinegar
neep oil
dawn dish detergent
Adams flea spray
FRONTLINE spray
borax on carpets
Steam cleaned carpets with white vinegar

NOTHING HAS WORKED! Im now crying about this. I was so stupid and wanted to be natural and my defense was to only use ACV and DE before flea season -now im probably going to have to flea bomb my house

THANKS

They may very well be itching from the flea bites even if they don't have many fleas.

I'm not sure from your posts- have you been treating the pets, or just treating your house? If you haven't done it yet, treat them with a spot treatment (I heard Advantage and Vectra are working best this year).

Do you live in a house? If so, you may have a flea problem in the yard that you'll have to treat. You can call someone to spray out there, or I think you can also use diatomaceous earth.

I treated the animals first - then within a day or 2 - i started with the floors.

I live in a condo - so its almost impossible to treat the yard.

Actually my roommate couldnt take it any longer and is at this moment bombing his room.

I can smell it in mine across the condo with his door shut. Thats some powerful stuff... i dont know if ill even need to do it twice.

Wait... you're using a flea fogger while still in the home? A shut door isn't good enough! You and the cats need to be out of there NOW. Too much of that and it can really mess up your nervous system. Ideally sensitive electronics (computers, newer flats tvs) need to be unplugged, too.

If you got with a spot on your quickest acting one is Advantage. It's also ironically one of the cheapest. I prefer it if not treating for worms/earmites, too.

I left soon after....

We did have to keep the pets inside but taped up the door w an open window. Not my idea...but I live w someone who will do what they want..... I have no say....

They should be ok right??

Just let me say, these are your animals and no one should put them in harms way.

That being said, use a topical you get from your vet. Advantage is my choice. The other things just waste your money IMO. When I had fleas in the house, I had to actually have an exterminator come in.

The best way to fight fleas is to stop them at the beginning by using Advantage or another topical from your vet.

NEVER use over the counter flea meds on your cats. Horror stories of seizures and death from these.

With giving Advantage or other from the vet, you can stop the cycle of fleas hatching and prolonging the problem.
