i dont know if this is the proper place for this thread sorry if its not.

this is gemmas belly....its HUGE. she has in the past been caught by toms but produced no kittens. vet suggested a spay had been done but she still goes into heats, acts pregnant and looks like this...now its been 57 days since her last heat..i keep track..has a heat every 64 days give or take a day or two.

give me some opinions. im at a loss other than this she is completely healthy.

I would suggest asking the mods to move to the health forum. There are some well informed folks on TCS that can probably offer some insight as to what is going on.

Is there any reason she isn't spayed yet? If she still goes into heat, to me that means she isn't spayed & I'd get her in ASAP, especially having an un-neutered male in the hosue!

this is what i have been going through with her. she has a scar so my vet wrote it off as a spay that may have left enough tissue in to have her go through heats(irregular he said) SO ive been keeping track and its always 64 day give or take a day or two.

SHE has been caught before i got her and the results NO pregnancy. When i got her i thought she was Pregnant but took her to vet and the vet checked her over.

Do you think i need another opinion

MY unneutered male...

he well..i dont think he realizes he is a male plus im NOT stupid. Since he just arrived he has been separated from the other cats.

he is a flamepoint male. i swear heis a female cat trapped in a male cats body...he just doesnt come across like a tom his age should be NO spraying, NO yowling(nothing that other toms have done) the only thing he does roll around the ground and tweet. its weird. but he is a lovely cat(havent had a chance to post pics lately but will prob later today of most ofthecats)

You could get a hormone test done to check her levels, but given she comes back into heat, I would get a vet to re-open her up - if she has been spayed and something left, it is more likely to become cancerous. Also, while rare, cats can have two uteruses, which would cause them to keep being in heat even though they have been spayed.

thats weird never heard of that.

the spca clinic vet for the low cost clinic said i could bring her in to have her reopened for less than what my vets charge

BUT tonka has to go get neutered first then Gemma will be taken. Id prefer to get Gemma in first but dont want tonka to suddenly realize he is a boy and start spraying.

Why would an extra uterus make her go into heat? Just curious....I believe the hormones come from the ovaries, not the uterus.

If it is a case of retained ovarian tissue, she might be having a false pregnancy.

I don't know how common exactly, but it's certainly not unheard of. Isn't that what your vet said it was? Hopefully that's what it is and not a real pregnancy. . .

This is not really about a cat, but my first dog kept going into heat and when we finally caught her out of heat and got her spayed the vet discovered a cyst attached to an ovary that kept making her go into heat. Maybe something like that is happening to your girl or she could have some remaining organ tissue as mentioned as a possibility.

Well, dogs are only supposed to go into heat twice a year, cats are basically always in heat if not pregnant. So if the cat isn't spayed it would be normal for her to be in heat often, whether she has cysts or not. If the cat has been spayed like the vet thinks, then obviously something went wrong, a bit of ovarian tissue being missed or whatever.
