I am so excited! I have been a bus assistant for over a year. The system for it is sort of silly. Once you take the class and pass the test, you are a "sub" assistant, and work when others can't. At this point, you are not hired, get no benefits and may go weeks with nothing. I went through a phase last year where I worked 8 hours a week, and then nothing for months. Luckily, I have an amazing fiance.
Well, about three months from the end of the school year last year, the driver I worked with first needed a sub assistant on her bus, and I ended up staying till the end of the year. Now, she is almost like a substitute mother to me, and we have been working together for the past two weeks on her bus this year. Her regular assistant is going to bid on a different bus tuesday morning, so as long as she gets her way, I may get to work with her to the end of the school year! I am so excited for steady pay- I can save for my wedding!
I love this bus too. I have three pre-k, the most adorable kids. Several well behaved, bright and imaginative elementary kids as well. Our high school run has a rather hard to deal with 16 year old boy who is mentally a lot younger. I love him to bits anyway all ready- he is hard to handle at times, but we have figured out the best way to make him behave. I am so excited that I get to stay with my kids for the year- it just made my night to find out!!
