4 of the cats are sneezing and have runny eyes and are on meds. Four of the cats are healthy...so far...

So is it okay for the sick ones to be together and for the healthy ones to be together or should I keep them all apart (which will be almost impossible)?

NO! Absolutely not, the sick ones need to be isolated from each other if at all possible or you will just end up re-infecting each cat. The same goes with the medication you are giving them, you should have several eyedroppers and have the cat's name on each dropper and not use the same one to draw out the meds. Also pour the meds out into a bottle cap, try to measure each amount that way so you don't reinfect them as well.

Trust Hissy on that! When I got Minnie & Winnie, they had URI, and were given amoxy drops. I felt bad keeping them cooped up in a small bedroom, so we let them roam around when we were home. It sort of cleared up, then last week and the week before, they started sneezing again. Gizmo lost his meow almost completely. So, I called the vet up and he gave me clavamox for all 3 of them. Fluffy has a semi-scratchy meow, now, which I've been giving her some of it as well. Minnie & Winnie go for their vaccinations today and I'll have to see if they can give me an extra bottle of it just in case.

I'll have to try to figure out a way to keep them apart. I just don't have enough seprate rooms to keep 8 cats away from each other

I would call your vet up and ask for some extra bottles of meds just to be on the safe side. I got an extra bottle of Clavamox for Fluffy.

Get a few cozy crates. These are lightweight tents that are easy to assemble and store when not in use. I use them for kittens and expecting queens. There is room for the litter box, food water and a bed.

I have tons of amoxi drops on hand so I'm good with meds for awhile. My vet seems to think it is viral and that it will clear up on its own. He seems to think it is more a cold not a uri. But to be on the safe side the ones that are sneezing are on meds.

I had amoxy drops (the er vet is the one who gave me those) which seemed to help them. I finished the meds like my regular vet told me too, but then a week later they were still sneezing and had nasal discharge. So, they gave me clavamox, which is a bit stronger. Within 2 days, the sneezing had stopped. They were on it for a full 5 days from Monday til yesterday.

I think I might request clavamox. My vet is being really good and I can just call and say this is what they are doing and he will let me just pick the meds up with out bring the whole crew in since he sees them so much

Val, I am so glad to hear that you've finally found a decent vet!

Clavamox is what Romeo was on when he had his URI in March, and what Phoenix was taking up until last week. She has no more sneezes and her eys are back to being the clear emeralds I fell in love with

How are the kittens doing? Sending hugs to them all.

To your little model: Tell her as her agent, you want her to get better fast, cause you don't earn any fees if she's not up there on the catwalk!

Glad everyone else is feeling better.

This will keep them, the food and water, and litter boxes seperate. This will keep them from sneezing on each other and each others food and water too. They will hate it, but it does help keep down reinfecting each other.

There's no place like home
I feel your pain! When I was the mom of only about 7 cats, one of them gave 3 others rhino virus (sneezing, running eye, cold-flu like). Not having enough rooms to separate them all, I put the 4 with the virus in a bathroom (it was 10X8) with a vaporizor until I got thru it. My kitten-at-the-time Bogart (now 13 years old) ended up hospitalized on a respirator and fluids for a week or we would have lost him.

Separate your cats at all costs, even if you have to put the sick ones in one room and the healthy ones elsewhere.

I'm in a 3 room quarantine myself right now (FLV positive 3 year old in one room (cross your fingers he fights it off), 12 week old kittens in a separate room, and the remaining 8 roaming the rest of the house until we get a second month of FLV negatives in everyone).
