This is interesting. To me anyway.

I treated all three adult cats with frontline plus before bringing Queen Eva home, knowing how bad her flea infestation was. Until she had her capstar and kitten revolution, she lived in my bathroom for 24 hours, and I took every precaution for preventing tracking any fleas or flea eggs out of there.

I'm sure it was inevitable that I brought out some, but since every cat is treated, it is not going to be a problem, because as any eggs hatch, the fleas will jump on a cat and be killed.

This morning I found myself absently scratching a bite on my leg, kind of a funny looking bite, so I looked it up and it appears it is a flea bite. Not ten minutes after I found the bite, I found a dead flea on the bathroom floor. So after that flea bit me, if must have jumped on one of the cats and met it's death, LOL.

All the cats will be treated again with frontline plus Tuesday September 14. I figure that should take care of any eggs left from her first day that may hatch/are hatching. By the time that 30 day dose is wearing thin it will be getting colder here and fleas will no longer be an issue.

I've noticed some uncharacteristic scratching today but even if a flea does live long enough to produce eggs they will be sterile anyway.

But it was funny how I found the flea bite on me, and then the dead flea right after.

I have had some flea bites this year too. I had a six pack left from last year. I have treated my cats three times, with the last one being this morning. My cats live outside but they come on my screened porch. I have nice furniture there and I keep spreads over it so I can remove them. That way someone can sit without the cat hair on their clothes. I do sit out there somedays with my cats. About three weeks ago I woke early in the morning hours itching on my back. Next morning my hubby said I had about 4 bites on my back. I am wondering if that flea medication was as effective as it should have been since I bought it last year. Anyone have any thoughts on this. My husband threatened to put a drop of the stuff on my neck.

I read somewhere recently that these products don't expire. There is no expiration date on the box of frontline plus I have.

I don't normally have any problems with fleas, I don't ever need to treat for them. This is a unique case because I rescued a kitten who was completely covered with them. I knew she was before I brought her home so I treated my adult cats ahead of time, and planned ahead to treat all four cats again in 30 days.

Unless you bought your flea products from your vet, of course, there is a chance what you are using is not a genuine product. Up until April of this year Frontline plus (Merial) and Advantage (Bayer) products were still sold only to veterinarians, so if you got it from other sources, there's no guarantee it's actually what you payed for.

On the other hand, if the cats only come on the porch now and then, that would mean that fleas tracked in may not land on a cat right away, and so will have a chance to bite you and lay viable eggs in the upholstery, before ultimately jumping on a cat to be killed.

Thanks, Otto. I always buy the flea meds from my vet. In times past, I purchased from E-Bay, but then learned about the counterfeit products. The cats come on the porch every day. I don't understand why I am having more of a problem than usual. I brush their fur every day which should help. Oh well, cold weather will come and solve that problem. My bites are well now.
